New York Giants star running back Cam Skattebo has addressed the situation after an essay he supposedly penned during his college years spread like wildfire across the internet.

A mere six weeks into his rookie NFL season, Skattebo has rapidly emerged as a beloved figure among Giants supporters due to his aggressive playing approach and commanding presence.

In New York’s 34-17 victory against the Philadelphia Eagles, he carried the ball 19 times for 98 yards and scored three touchdowns before dramatically tearing his shirt off during Amazon Prime’s ‘Thursday Night Football’ broadcast.

Following the impressive showing, Skattebo has found himself back in the public eye – albeit for a completely unrelated matter.

Earlier this week, a purported essay authored by the first-year player on Dec. 5, 2021 started circulating on social platforms.

At the document’s header, Skattebo’s name appears next to “Martha Smith” along with the date.

The work, bearing the title “San Francisco 49ers,” is a clumsily composed analysis of the powerful bond between ex-teammates Joe Montana and Jerry Rice.

“The San Francisco 49ers are known all around the world,” the essay opened.

“Players such as Joe Montana and Jerry Rice are well known NFL players that played football for the Team. What they have in common carried them to an opportunity to win many Super Bowls.

“Both of these players and the rest of the roster had enough courage to play against the Broncos in 1990 and lead themselves to success. Even though these two moguls played to the same team and are part of the same football family there positions and there background are different but they’ were brought together by a beautiful sport we call football.

“Joe Montana was bom on June 11 1956 in Pennsylvania and raised in a small town of Monongahela. From an early age, he was both competitive and calm under pressure.

“His father, a manager in a finance company, introduced him to sports, and he became very good at baseball, basketball, and football at Ringgold High School. He was especially known for his accuracy and composure on the field, which would define his career.”

Heading to the comments section, Skattebo quickly shut down any rumors suggesting he had penned the essay during his time at Sacramento State.

“Not mine lol fake news,” he posted on X.

Despite Skattebo’s popularity among his Giants teammates, they readily acknowledge he’s not exactly the brightest bulb in the box.

“He’s as genuine as they come. He’s genuinely an idiot,” wide receiver Gunner Olszewski joked.

“[Reserved] is not in his wheelhouse. He doesn’t know where he’s at. Most rookies when they first get into the league are like, ‘Oh my god, it’s the NFL.’ For him it’s just another day playing football.”

Tight end Daniel Bellinger shared his thoughts, saying: “[He] just yells things out. No filter at all. Whether it’s right or wrong, he’ll just yell it out.

“That’s Skatt for you. I mean I’ve had some characters. I feel like [Sterling Shepard] was kind of wild. Some of these guys, Ihmir [Smith-Marsette] is a little bit wild. But this guy’s one of a kind. No filter.”

While Skattebo may not have been a star student, he’s certainly shining on the football field. The 23-year-old has racked up 82 carries for 338 yards and five touchdowns in just six games this season.
