The Indianapolis Colts did reportedly “make a play” at Cincinnati Bengals‘ defensive end Trey Hendrickson over the summer.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Colts did talk to the Bengals about trading Hendrickson before he had his contract reworked.
Breer would add that the Bengals’ asking price was “a lot.” This included a “high-end” draft pick as well as Grover Stewart.
Obviously, that was not a path that the Colts were willing to go down.
Defensive end help, opposite of Laiatu Latu, remains a position that the Colts could look to add to prior to the NFL trade deadline, which is just a few weeks away.
Whether Hendrickson will be available at that time remains to be seen. With the Bengals’ win on Thursday night, they are now 3-4 on the season.
Breer also acknowledges that whether the Bengals’ asking price remains the same is unknown at this time.
For several seasons, Hendrickson has been one of the most disruptive pass rushers in the NFL. This includes leading the league in sacks in 2024, and he had a lot of that success with Lou Anarumo as his defensive coordinator.
