MOORHEAD — Moorhead Spuds junior David Mack put an exclamation point on the regular season with 18 catches for 202 yards and four touchdowns in a dramatic road victory against Edina on Wednesday night.
Mack set a program single-game record for receptions in a game.
“David is a special competitor,” said Spuds head coach Kevin Feeney.
The Spuds earned a No. 6 seed for the Minnesota Class 6A football playoffs, which start next weekend. Moorhead (4-4) plays No. 3 seed Blaine at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at Blaine High School in the first round.
“My take on the 6A is if you play really good football, you’re going to give yourself a chance to win. If you don’t play good football, you will be beat,” Feeney said. “We’ve got to be really, really sharp if we want to earn another game.”

Moorhead quarterback Jett Feeney played in three games during the regular season for the Spuds due to a shoulder injury. He’s healthy heading into the Minnesota Class 6A football playoffs.

The Spuds snapped a three-game losing streak with their 51-44 victory against Edina. Mack caught a 13-yard TD pass from quarterback Jett Feeney in the closing seconds with the Hornets clinging to a 44-43 lead.
Jett played for the first time since Sept. 5, returning from a shoulder injury. He completed 32 of 38 passes for 373 yards and four TDs against Edina.
“The momentum that we got last night against a really good football team is important,” Kevin Feeney said. “I’m excited. I think our kids really enjoyed (Wednesday) night.”
The 32-team Class 6A bracket was released Thursday morning. Rosemount, Centennial, Maple Grove and Forest Lake all earned No. 1 seeds in their respective quadrants of the bracket.
Mack had 75 catches for 1,045 yards and 17 touchdowns over eight games in the regular season. Jett Feeney passed for 796 yards and 11 touchdowns with one interception in three games. QB Austin Dryburgh passed for 1,105 yards and 13 TDs in six games, while Jett was sidelined due to injury.
Taye Reich led the Spuds on the ground, rushing for 907 yards and 11 touchdowns on 128 attempts in eight games.
“Every play matters and gets amplified in the playoffs,” Kevin Feeney said. “The margin for error just gets so small. We’ve got to be really detailed on how we go about our business.”
