The Washington Commanders are preparing for a crucial Week 7 matchup against the division rival Dallas Cowboys. Both teams are entering this game off a loss desperately needing a win to keep up with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Unfortunately for the Commanders, injuries have been a problem lately. Star veteran wide receiver Terry McLaurin has missed the last three games with a quadriceps injury. Fellow receiver Noah Brown also hasn’t played since Week 2, and is now on injured reserve, while Deebo Samuel missed practice this week with a bruised heel.

The Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the league this year, so the hope was that the receivers would get healthier for this game. Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be the case, as head coach Dan Quinn formally ruled McLaurin out for Week 7 on Friday.

“Just not ready yet,” said Quinn about McLaurin. “And that sometimes happens when you have a soft-tissue injury… He’s working at it hard, he’s frustrated, but we’re closer.”

Quinn also added that McLaurin is back running routes, but he isn’t able to launch and go full speed quite yet. The coach didn’t specifically mention Samuel, but the veteran is expected to be a game-time decision.

Before the injury, McLaurin had 10 catches for 149 yards this season. Since McLaurin has been out, Samuel has shouldered more of the load on offense and has been a reliable target for Daniels. However, if both receivers are out, somebody else is going to have to step up in a big way in Week 7.

Other than McLaurin and Samuel, no other receiver on the Commanders’ roster has more than eight catches on the season. Luke McCaffrey, Jaylin Lane, and Chris Moore are currently the only healthy receivers on the active roster, but Jacoby Jones, Treylon Burks, Ja’Corey Brooks, and Robbie Chosen are on the practice squad.

The good news is that Daniels seems to be past his injury after fully participating in practice all week. Lineman Sam Cosmi was also a full participant this week and could make his season debut against the Cowboys.

The Commanders and Cowboys will kick off from AT&T Stadium on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. After this matchup, the Commanders travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in Week 8 before returning home to face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 9.
