The Tennessee Titans fired Brian Callahan after just six weeks into the new season with a number of candidates rumored to be targeted by the team looking to announce a replacement soonMatt Nagy has spoken on the Titans positionMatt Nagy has spoken on the Titans position

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy has seemingly rejected the idea that he would leave to become Tennessee Titans head coach despite being the betting favorite for the role.

The Titans fired Brian Callahan just six games into the new season having won just one game so far and four in total in his 23 as head coach. Callahan signed a five-year deal when he became the Titans head coach just last year, but his poor record led the front office to make a drastic move.

Callahan, Joe Burrow’s former offensive coordinator at the Cincinnati Bengals, had been seen as the perfect coach to help develop number one overall pick Cam Ward. But the rookie has had his struggles with just three touchdowns and four interceptions in six games.

His firing leaves an opening at his position, with Nagy one of a number of coaches linked to the role.

The offensive coordinator has spoken on the role, stating: “The time is not now [to consider another job away from the Chiefs]. It’s only fair to your peers, your players … to stay true to them. You stand in the moment.

“You look forward to it [being a head coach] but the time’s not right now. I love coming here, being with these guys every day. It’s just awesome.”

Nagy had been head coach of the Chicago Bears for four years, from 2018 through the 2021 season while actually having a winning record of 34-31.

A playcaller that Patrick Mahomes has raved about, Nagy could be seen as a good option for Ward to learn under and perhaps a reason as to why he has been linked to the role.

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo and former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has also been seen as potential candidates.

McCarthy might have the best chances to land the role, while currently not in a position after leaving the Cowboys last season.

Another potential candidate could be Bill Belichick, amid his nightmare first season in college football with North Carolina.

For now, the Titans (1-5) will be led by interim head coach Mike McCoy, with them set to face their former head coach in Mike Vrabel against the New England Patriots.

Nagy has been with the Chiefs since 2022, re-joining them after he left in 2018 to take over at the Bears. For now, it looks to be the case that Mahomes will keep his play caller.
