“I got your back.”
The 49ers have rallied around their “IGYB” motto for years, and it certainly has come in handy during the 2025 NFL season after losing star defenders Fred Warner and Nick Bosa to devastating injuries.
In the aftermath of Warner’s exit from San Francisco’s Week 6 loss with a season-ending dislocated, broken ankle, the All-Pro’s fellow linebackers paid homage to their team captain with special T-shirts that were shared by the 49ers on Saturday.
Emblazoned with San Francisco’s IGYB mantra, the shirts show the tight-knit nature of the 49ers’ linebackers room.
“Fred has been everything to me,” second-year linebacker Tatum Bethune, who’s taking Warner’s place as the MIKE in San Francisco’s defense, told reporters Wednesday. “A teacher, a brother, just a friend too. The way he carries himself on and off the field, I just learned a lot from Fred. I’m rooting for him, he’s in good spirits right now.
“Our goal is to go out there on the field and make him proud, and show him the legacy and the standard he set for the San Francisco 49ers’ defense is going to be upheld.”
Warner has promised his comeback will be “legendary,” and it’s clear his 49ers teammates will be behind him every step of the way.
