(WLUK) — Two dishes featuring cheese curds made a list of the best tailgate foods.
The website LiveSportsonTV says it surveyed 3,045 football fans across the country to compile the ranking.
Each dish was connected to a particular fan base.
Coming in at No. 13 was beer-battered cheese curds, which the survey linked to Wisconsin college football fans.
The website writes:
In Madison, Badgers fans elevate their state’s signature snack by dunking cheese curds in beer batter and frying them until crisp. The result is molten, gooey centers wrapped in golden crunch, often served with ranch or spicy dipping sauces. At tailgates around Camp Randall Stadium, baskets of these curds vanish quickly, washed down with local brews. It’s Wisconsin pride in bite-sized form — indulgent, fun, and unmistakably Badger.
Lambeau Field wasn’t left out of the rankings. Bratwurst with cheese curds, a dish that says Wisconsin just as much as the Green Bay Packers came in at No. 33.
At Lambeau Field, bratwursts and cheese curds are inseparable from Packers football. Brats are grilled to perfection, served on buns with mustard or sauerkraut, while cheese curds — squeaky when fresh, golden when fried — round out the plate. Fans huddle around grills in freezing temperatures, smoke rising into the Wisconsin air as green-and-gold scarves flap in the wind. It’s Midwestern comfort food at its best, perfectly suited for the NFL’s most die-hard crowd.
The Packers rival Chicago Bears had the No. 2 dish with Chicago-style Italian beef sandwiches. They came in behind pulled pork BBQ from the University of Georgia.
The Packers did rank highly for biggest portions, trailing only Dallas Cowboys fans.
