The New York Jets have made a decision the Pittsburgh Steelers are all too familiar with — as QB Justin Fields was just benched in favor of a veteran quarterback.
During the Jets’ Week 7 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, Fields’ struggles were evident early on — completing just 6-of-12 passes for an abysmal 46 yards — leading New York to replace him with QB Tyrod Taylor.
Fields would fail to re-enter the game, Week 7 and it marked the third time he’s thrown for under 50 passing yards and averaged fewer than four yards per pass attempt — statistics closer to those of a backup than a starting-caliber quarterback. Ultimately, the Jets lost 13-6, falling to 0-7, while the Panthers improved to 4-3.
Pittsburgh was heavily criticized for allowing Fields to leave in favor of signing 41-year-old QB Aaron Rodgers, but it’s clear the Steelers made the right choice seven weeks into the 2025 regular season.
