NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The Tennessee Titans are facing more than just a tough season on the field. They’re also struggling to fill the stands at Nissan Stadium, according to a study posted in September.
According to research released by ticket-comparison site Ticket-Compare.com, the Titans have one of the emptiest stadiums in the NFL, this season. As of Sept. 22, the team is averaging more than 11,000 empty seats per home game, according to the study, resulting in an estimated $1.9 million in lost revenue per game.
“It definitely feels like the life’s been sucked out of us a little bit,” said Tadd Greer, a long-time Titans fan, after the Titans’ loss to the Patriots, Sunday.
“We just can’t stand to see them losing and losing, and it’s deflating,” said Brittany Cleaver, another fan.
The team’s performance this season hasn’t helped. The Titans currently sit at 1-6, as they’re adjusting to a new starting quarterback and, as of Monday, a new interim head coach following the release of Brian Callahan.
Titans President of Football Operations Chad Brinker acknowledged the frustration during a news conference on Oct. 13.
“We’re all frustrated,” Brinker said. “We understand that you, the fans- you’re frustrated with everything that’s going on.”
Despite a number of empty seats and on-field struggles, the franchise remains financially strong. The Titans generated $582 million in revenue last year, a number that has grown steadily each year since 2001, excluding 2020, during the pandemic, according to statistica.com.
Looking ahead, the organization remains optimistic. The team’s future stadium, currently under construction, is projected to bring $34 billion to the Nashville economy over the next 30 years, and create nearly 5,000 jobs, according to a Titans website.
While some seats may be empty, Titans’ fan fervor isn’t lacking.
“I love this team,” said fan Grant Cho. “I would bleed for this team. I would go and block for Cam Ward if I was big enough.”
Fox 17 News reached out to the Titans Sunday, but didn’t yet hear back.
