EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Carolina Panthers extended their winning streak to three games with a 13-6 victory over the New York Jets, marking their first road win of the season. Bryce Young showcased his patience in the first quarter, connecting with Xavier Legette for the Panthers’ only touchdown. The defense, particularly the secondary, was instrumental in the win. Safety Tre’von Moehrig sacked Justin Fields, while Jaycee Horn made two interceptions, including a one-handed grab in the third quarter. Despite Young leaving the game injured in the fourth quarter with an apparent ankle injury, the Panthers improved their record to 4-3.
In other NFL action, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Washington Commanders 44-22, with Javonte Williams scoring his sixth touchdown of the season and rushing for 116 yards. Pookie’s second 100-plus rush yard game of the season for Dallas. The Cowboys now stand at 3-3-1. Next, they face the Denver Broncos, who recently staged a dramatic comeback against the Giants.
In Tennessee, Mike Vrabel returned as the New England Patriots defeated the Titans 31-13. Former UNC star Drake Maye connected with Kayshon Boutte for a 39-yard touchdown, and K’Lavon Chaisson scored on a fumble recovery.
In the CFL, Tyler Snead of the Montreal Alouettes had a standout performance with 114 receiving yards in a 39-28 win over the Redblacks. Justin Hardy, also a former ECU Pirate, is close to achieving his third consecutive 1,000-yard season.
The East-West All-Star Game roster was announced, featuring 11 players and two coaches from Eastern North Carolina. Notable selections include New Bern’s Terrance McCormick and Zion Wright, East Duplin’s Shawn Davis, and Havelock’s Zykem Patillo.
On the racetrack, Chase Briscoe claimed his first Super Speedway win at Talladega, securing a spot in the Championship 4. The next race is in Martinsville, Virginia.
In baseball, former ECU Pirate Jeff Hoffman helped the Mariners force a Game 7 in the ALCS with four strikeouts in the final two innings.
