It’s only Week 7, but from a team perspective, this is already the most successful season of DeMario Douglas’ career.
The Patriots wide reciever endured back-to-back 4-13 slogs during his first two years in Foxborough, so he’s relishing the team’s 5-2 start to the Mike Vrabel era.
“Man, I feel good,” Douglas said after a 31-13 win over the Titans.
The third-year wideout caught three passes for 17 yards on Sunday, including a highlight reel grab to move the chains on a fourth-and-1 in the third quarter. It wasn’t hard for Douglas to pinpoint why the team has gotten off to such a fast start.
“The unselfishness,” Douglas said. “I feel like that’s what’s helping us win. We’re out there playing for each other. That adds a part to it. The guys that we have, it starts with our coaches and then the players that we have, we’re all close. I think this is the first team that offense and defense are (personally) close. We’re close. It’s just a good energy.”
Douglas then pulled back the curtain on some of the good-natured horsing around that’s been going on in the locker room.
“We’ll be wrestling, receivers wrestling with the d-line,” Douglas said. “That doesn’t even sound right. Those boys are huge. But it just brings us closer. Brothers. That’s how brothers do it. That gets us close.”
