GLENDALE — Seven weeks in and Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride has surpassed a career mark for receiving touchdowns in a single season with four.
Against the Green Bay Packers in Week 7, the tight end found the end zone not once, but twice — another NFL first for McBride.
Scoring late in the first half on a 15-yard catch from quarterback Jacoby Brissett, McBride is now up to three receiving touchdowns in 2025. That ties his 2023 mark as a second-year pro.
And it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Looking to cash in on the defense’s first sack of the afternoon, Arizona got complementary play behind a nine-play, 71-yard scoring drive that drained most of the final three minutes of action.
That’s where McBride came in, reeling in the score with just 12 seconds left to go before halftime.
Brissett deserves a ton of credit on the scoring drive, too, having completed all six of his throws for 79 yards and the touchdown.
The good news? Arizona scored the only touchdown of the half.
The bad news? It was Green Bay that walked into the locker room with the final points of the first two quarters.
Despite only having seven seconds to go, quarterback Jordan Love did just enough behind a 22-yard pass to Romeo Doubs before Lucas Havrisik booted a 61-yard field goal as the clock expired on the first half to trim Arizona’s lead to 13-6.
Then came the second half.
After giving up a Green Bay score after a Brissett strip sack, the Cardinals bounced back with another McBride score on the ensuing drive.
Needing nine plays to move 65 yards, Arizona capped off the scoring drive with a 12-yard score from McBride.
McBride’s efforts wouldn’t be enough to get the Cardinals over the top, however, with Arizona falling 27-23 to the Packers for its fifth straight loss decided by one score.
The tight end finished the afternoon with 10 catches (13 targets) for 74 yards and the two scores.
Trey McBride’s 10-catch effort on Sunday moved him into the No. 2 spot for the most receptions by a tight end across his first four seasons, surpassing Antonio Gates’ 265 catches.
Jimmy Graham’s mark of 301 remains the only number to beat for the Cardinals TE.
