Backup quarterback Mac Jones again did his job in the 49ers’ 20-10 “Sunday Night Football” win over the Atlanta Falcons at Levi’s Stadium in Week 7 of the 2025 NFL season.

And, as it turns out, the victory — Jones’ fourth in place of Brock Purdy, who still is dealing with a frustrating turf toe injury — came with a lucrative performance-based incentive.

Mac Jones escapes and runs for eight yards. Besides the win, he is playing for a $400,000 contract incentive if gets his fourth win as a starter this season.

The Legend of McCorkle continues.

In March, Jones signed a two-year, $7 million contract with San Francisco that includes a guaranteed $5 million and a maximum payout of $11.5 million, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, who cited sources at the time.

Somewhere in the deal was the $400K incentive — but that’s not all.

After reaching the impressive four-win milestone, it’s clear Jones has more to play for besides keeping his career alive and keeping the 49ers atop the competitive NFC West.

Huge win for the depleted #49ers and QB Mac Jones, who earns a cool $400,000 incentive for his fourth win (and $100K for each one after this).

Given the uncertainty surrounding Purdy’s recovery timeline, paired with San Francisco’s continued success, there’s a good chance Jones could accumulate more wads of cash.

And he deserves it.

Jones finished Sunday’s primetime win 17-for-26 with 152 yards with an interception; it wasn’t his prettiest game, but it got the job done — and that’s all coach Kyle Shanahan could want given the overwhelming injuries his 49ers are dealing with across the board.

Over his 4-1 record as the 49ers’ starter, Jones has completed 67.3 percent of passes for 1,252 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.

He simply has given San Francisco chances to win every time out, despite his own bumps and bruises.

The 49ers have a long way to go during the 2025 campaign. And Jones, presumably the team’s starter until Purdy is fully healthy, has no shortage of motivation.
