A week after cutting their longest tenured player in kicker Justin Tucker, the Baltimore Ravens added more kicking competition for this summer and preseason to find his replacement. The Ravens drafted rookie Tyler Loop out of Arizona in the NFL Draft last month in the sixth-round; their first draft selection ever on a kicker.
Today, Loop has company.
The Ravens signed undrafted rookie free agent kicker John Hoyland out of Wyoming. Hoyland spent rookie minicamp with the Ravens as a tryout.
Having multiple kickers this time of year is nothing unusual, and the Ravens may even find some leverage with Loop or Hoyland with trade offers if all goes well before week one for the kickers.
Hoyland was a record-setting kicker with the Cowboys. Hoyland made 78.9% of his field-goal attempts and was 15-of-19 on field goals last year.
Joining Hoyland, the Ravens also signed undrafted rookie free agents Army offensive tackle Lucas Scott and Louisiana-Lafayette defensive back Keyon Martin. All three participated in rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
