NFL Overreactions Week 7
USA TODAY’s Prince Grimes breaks down the best games from NFL Week 7.
Sports Seriously
There is a big Monday Night Football game between the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with a growing list of injured players.
The biggest in-game injury is to Mike Evans. The update is grim, as he was carted to locker room from the sideline in the second quarter in “excruciating pain” and ruled out by the Bucs with a concussion and shoulder injury. Evans had missed the previous three games with a hamstring injury.
The Buccaneers are already without receiver Chris Godwin and running back Bucky Irving, while rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka is playing despite a hamstring injury suffered last week.
The Lions are missing starting safety Kerby Joseph due to a knee injury aggravated during last week’s 30-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Detroit is also without its other starting safety Brian Branch due to a suspension for sparking a fight last week.
We’re tracking Lions injuries vs the Bucs from tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup below.
Lions vs Bucs injury updates from Monday Night Football
Evans left the field in the second quarter against the Lions on Monday Night Football after laying out on an attempt to catch a deep ball, losing the ball after his shoulder and helmet slammed into the turf at Ford Field.
Evans, 32, was carted off from the sideline in “excruciating pain,” ESPN/ABC sideline reporter Laura Rutledge said on the TV broadcast, and the Bucs quickly ruled him out with a concussion and shoulder injury. Evans, who has 10 straight seasons with at least 1,000 yards receiving, had missed the past three games with a hamstring injury.
Reynolds, the Lions’ third-string running back, is questionable to return to the game with a hamstring injury.
Bucs’ quarterback Baker Mayfield attempted a long pass to receiver Mike Evans in the middle of the second quarter, who stayed on the field for several minutes following a drop. He was able to stand up and walk off the field slowly with the help of trainers.
We await updates on the nature and extent of his injury.
The Buccaneers are getting some extra help in their passing game today.
Wide receivers Mike Evans and Emeka Egbuka are active for today’s game against the Lions. Both entered the game listed as questionable with hamstring injuries.
The Lions have shared their inactives list, and left tackle Taylor Decker is not on it, meaning he is expected to play.
