The end of the 2025 NFL Draft is here. Three long days of seeing who would be the newest players to arrive in Detroit are now over. The Detroit Lions finished the draft by selecting another wide receiver and another player from the University of Georgia: Dominic Lovett.

This pick is a little bit of a combo for the future at the receiver position. First, Lovett is a slot wide receiver, giving the team another option inside the slot besides Amon-Ra St. Brown and Kalif Raymond. Speaking of Raymond, he is in the last year of his contract, and after 2025, Raymond will be 31 years old. Lovett could be a potential replacement for Raymond if he makes the roster.

He ran a 4.41 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, and his run-after-catch ability is impressive to find the open space and getting extra yards is helpful in the Lions offense.

Lovett started his collegiate career at Missouri for two years before transferring to Georgia. In his career, Lovett got 197 catches for 2,243 yards and 13 touchdowns, as well as 11 carries for 46 yards and a touchdown. At Georgia, he was the leading receiver in yards and catches in 2024, and he was a Second-Team All-SEC member in 2022 with Missouri.

Unlike Jameson Williams, who can catch the deep shots, Lovett is better at short-yardage catches, where he can quickly catch the ball and go. If he has to get physical with a wide receiver, things get difficult for him. At Georgia, he also had some hands issues, dropping nine catches in his two years with the Bulldogs compared to just one drop in two years he had with the Tigers.

His PFF grades aren’t anything too impressive either, getting a 65.8 offensive grade last season and a receiving grade of 67.2. His best season was in 2022 with Missouri as that is where he saw his highest grades and stats throughout his career.

Didn’t let one ball hit the ground the entire time. Crushed both Gauntlet reps. Had some nice grabs along the sideline and down the field. pic.twitter.com/gBrkP6MdNK

Overall, for a seventh-round player, this is a good value pick here for the Lions. If they can work on his drops and make him a more consistent catch option for quarterback Jared Goff, he could fill in if Raymond goes down. He also has experience as a gunner on special teams and this team loves a wide receiver that can play gunner well. If the Lions can develop him and work with him, he could fill in as a WR4 in the future.
