FRISCO — Sunday was a big day for Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson.

He walked into AT&T Stadium wearing a replica high school jersey of quarterback Dak Prescott.

Ferguson also caught two touchdown passes in the Cowboys’ victory over the Commanders. In the process, he gave one of the footballs he caught for a score to coach Brian Schottenheimer, who then lost it.

Well, Dez Bryant has it.

First, let’s get to the jersey.

Ferguson said he has tremendous respect for Prescott as a person and wanted to show that by wearing a jersey from the quarterback’s high school: Haughton High in Haughton, La.

“Showing respect to him and what he does and how he carries himself,” Ferguson said.

So, where do you get a replica high school football jersey?

“I got my sources,” Ferguson said Monday.

Ferguson said it was a coincidence that he arrived at AT&T Stadium with Prescott.

“It was perfect timing,” he said.

Ferguson also said he’s got an autographed college jersey of backup quarterback Will Grier that he plans to wear when it arrives.

“We were talking about our high schools, me, Dak and Will Grier, and I eventually looked (it) up,” Ferguson said. “I’ve got a Will Grier No. 7 West Virginia, signed by him in the mail on the way. It’s just something we like to have fun. It’s a great locker room.”

Now for the football. On Sept. 28, when Ferguson caught a touchdown pass in the tie against Green Bay, he gave a football to tight ends coach Lunda Wells.

Schottenheimer and game management coordinator Ryan Feder were teasing Ferguson they didn’t get a football.

So after Ferguson caught two scores on Sunday, he decided to give one of the footballs to Schottenheimer.

With several former Cowboys players attending Sunday’s game as part of Homecoming festivities, Schottenheimer, after getting the ball from Ferguson, threw a pass to former receiver Dez Bryant.

Schottenheimer said he thought he threw the ball into the crowd.

Nope.

Bryant’s got it.

“Dez did catch it,” Schottenheimer said. “I had no idea. Literally, it’s one of those deals where you’re like blacked out he gave me the ball and in the emotion of it all, I don’t even know why I did it. But I did. Then Dak, said to me, ‘You know you threw that ball to Dez Bryant.’ And I said no, I threw it in the stands.”

During his Monday news conference, Schottenheimer asked for Bryant to return the football.
