Colts’ HC Shane Steichen weighed in on the upcoming NFL trade deadline.

The recipe for the Indianapolis Colts to be active before the NFL trade deadline certainly seems to exist.

The Colts are now 6-1 on the season following their latest win over the LA Chargers and hold the top seed in the AFC. They also have a need or two, specifically on defense, that could be addressed.

“I think Chris handles all that stuff,” Shane Steichen said of the trade deadline, via Colts.com. “I think Chris does a phenomenal job along with his staff. I think they’re always looking into different things that could come up before the trade deadline. So I’ll leave that stuff to him, and I think he’s done a hell of a job with all that stuff.”

The two positions in particular that the Colts could look to add to are cornerback and defensive end.

Injuries continue to test the depth of the Colts’ cornerback unit. And while this group has found ways to come up with big plays late, reinforcements on the outside are needed.

A recent report mentioned Indianapolis as a team that could look to “bolster” the cornerback position.

At defensive end, meanwhile, more pass rush consistency opposite of Laiatu Latu is a need as well. The Colts entered Week 7 ranked 29th in ESPN’s pass rush win rate metric. They are also reportedly going to be without Samson Ebukam for “multiple weeks.”

The NFL trade deadline is November 4th at 4:00 PM ET. The Colts currently have eight draft picks in 2026, one in each of the first six rounds and two in the seventh.

Indianapolis also has $4.188 million in available salary cap space, which ranks 28th in the NFL.
