Houston’s 27-19 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football dropped the Texans to 2-4 this season, leaving the 3-4 Cincinnati Bengals with the ninth-best record in the AFC.
The NFL playoffs will include seven teams from the AFC, including four division winners and three wild-card teams.
The eight teams ahead of the Bengals in the AFC standings include the 6-1 Indianapolis Colts; the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos at 5-2; the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills at 4-2; and the Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs at 4-3.
The Bengals’ remaining AFC opponents include the New York Jets, the Steelers, the Patriots, the Baltimore Ravens (twice), the Bills and the Miami Dolphins.
ESPN gave the Bengals just an 8 percent chance to make the postseason before Houston’s loss.
