The Cowboys are regaining strength with three important players returning to practice this week, a move that could reshape the roster as Dallas prepares for the season’s second half.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer used his first press conference following his team’s dismantling of an undermmaned Washington team to pile on some hopium for the fanbase. It appears that the Dallas Cowboys are welcoming back key reinforcements sooner rather than later, as the club tries to turn the corner on an injury-riddled first half of the season.

Dallas will be opening the 21-day practice windows for center Cooper Beebe, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and rookie cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. this week.

The move allows the team to evaluate each player’s progress as they work their way back from injury and decide whether to return them to the 53-man roster within the next three weeks.

Under league rules, the 21-day window functions as a trial period. During this time, players on injured reserve can practice without counting against the active roster. If not activated within that span, they must remain on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

Overshown has been sidelined since December 2024 after tearing his ACL, PCL, and LCL. Before his injury, the second-year linebacker made an immediate impact with 90 tackles, five sacks, and a pick-six in his first 13 games. According to executive vice president Stephen Jones, the team expects him to need the full three weeks before returning to action, but is encouraged by his progress.

Coach Schottenheimer said he is excited to see all three players back on the field. “All the guys have worked so hard to get back that I’m excited to get them out there, but we’ll be smart and we’ll ramp them up and see how they do.”

Starting center Cooper Beebe, who suffered a lateral foot sprain and high ankle sprain in Week 2 against the Giants, has missed five games so far. Veteran Brock Hoffman has filled in reliably during Beebe’s absence, giving the Cowboys flexibility to ease Beebe back into the lineup.

Third-round rookie Shavon Revel Jr. is taking the practice field for the first time since being drafted. The East Carolina product missed his senior season with a torn ACL but has made steady progress in his recovery.

Schottenheimer added that Revel will likely get scout team reps this week as part of the ramp-up process. “Over the last couple weeks working with Britt, you’ve seen the confidence in the change of direction in the things that he’s doing, which now makes us very comfortable opening his window and letting him go out there and play football… it’ll be mostly scout team stuff probably this week and let him run around and chase CeeDee [Lamb] and George [Pickens]… and see how he does.”

He also praised Revel’s perseverance through the recovery process, saying, “You don’t understand what these guys have to go through when you’re injured and you have to come back… the mental toughness that it takes to overcome those things.”

If all goes as planned, Overshown and Revel could make their season debuts when the Cowboys face the Las Vegas Raiders on November 17, giving Dallas a mid-season boost on both sides of the ball.
