Dak Prescott now has thrown least three touchdowns without an interception in four consecutive games. Other QBs to do that: Russell Wilson in 2015, Drew Brees in 2019, Aaron Rodgers in 2014, Peyton Manning in 2013-14, and Tom Brady in 2007. pic.twitter.com/nLN873c0Qe

The Dallas Cowboys’ Week 7 win over the Washington Commanders was a throwback to wonderful three-year run the team had under former head coach Mike McCarthy. When the team had three straight, 12-win seasons from 2021 through 2023, the Cowboys were doing it with big plays in both the run and passing game, and an attacking defense that cause turnovers.
Sunday’s win was a replica of that, only with Brian Schottenheimer running the show. Forty-burgers and the defense scoring was commonplace during the epic three-year run, which made the dominating win over the Commanders feel so familiar.
It was also done with former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn in attendance, only on the opposite sideline. Schottenheimer worked with McCarthy for three seasons, and Quinn for two, which makes for some interesting Parting Schott’s in Week 7.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had his best years under McCarthy, with Schottenheimer as an assistant, but he took a step back last season. It’s a new year and Prescott is once again thriving, this time with Schottenheimer at the helm.
Prescott threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns before shutting it down early in the fourth quarter. If anyone’s counting, and in a game of statistics all are, Prescott now has four straight games with at least three passing scores and no interceptions.
That’s some prestigious company for the veteran QB, who is back to playing some of his best football. After spending three years in Dallas and missing him for the two divisional contests last year, Quinn finally got to see how uncomfortable it was to go up against a Prescott-led offense. Prescott is on fire for the Cowboys right now.
Just a week after the Cowboys got pushed around upfront and couldn’t run the ball, they got back to running it well against the Commanders. Running back Javonte Williams ran for 116 yards, his second 100-yard game in Dallas, and a touchdown, while rushing for 6.1 yards a carry.
The Cowboys had run for at least 117 yards in every game prior to last week’s stinker, so getting back to being a physical group on the offensive line and opening holes for the rushing attack was a priority. It helped that right guard Tyler Booker was back and the left side of the OL was healthier a week away from their injuries to lead the way against a defense that struggles to stop the run.
Quinn’s defenses with the Cowboys often had trouble slowing down an opponent’s ground game and Schottenheimer leaned into it help the offense move the ball.
One of the biggest mistakes for the Cowboys in the win was the safety they gave up in the first quarter. It’s a tough spot to be in when the ball is places at the one-foot line, but Schottenheimer compounded the problem with a playcall that had tight end Luke Schoonmaker trying to block a defensive lineman, which failed miserably. Schoonmaker was blown up and the play resulted in a safety.
If the Cowboys want to try that play, perhaps they should be doing so with a more physical presence in TE Brevyn Spann-Ford. The third-string TE is a much better blocker and had a few blocks where he moved defenders out of the way in the win.
There’s a major difference in the way the two backups TEs block.
It seems like Spann-Ford should be getting more snaps, especially if Schottenheimer wants to play a physical brand of offense. With their receiving skills and number basically a wash, it’s Spann-Ford who offers more in the run game, that much was clear in the win over the Commanders.
It had been a rough first six weeks for the new defensive coordinator in Dallas, but Eberflus showed he could make some necessary changes. The Cowboys played more man coverage and blitzed more than they had in previous weeks, which provided better results.
According to Next Gen Stats, Dallas played man coverage 47.5 percent of the time. The Cowboys entered the game having played less man coverage than any other team.

Eberflus had the defense working on man coverage last week in practice, and it paid off.
It’s important to remember the Commanders were missing their top three receivers for the game, but either way, it showed that Eberflus can make adjustments to his philosophies to get the best out of his defense. That’s an important step forward.
The pick-six king was back at it against the Commanders, but that wasn’t the most impressive part of his game in Week 7. Bland was outstanding in making tackles, especially in the open field, stopping progress on receivers trying to reach the first down markers.
His biggest tackle came on the two-point conversion where Bland beat his blocker and made the sure tackle on Commanders QB Jayden Daniels. That’s not something many cornerbacks can do, but Bland got it done.
Bland was third on the team in tackles in the Week 7 win, so while the pick-six was awesome, it was his ability to tackle that was more notable.
