Two weeks ago, the Eagles faced Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart for the first of what could be many times in an NFC East clash at MetLife Stadium.
On Tuesday, days away from welcoming the Giants to Lincoln Financial Field, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was asked what lessons he learned from going up against Dart.
“One lesson learned is the teams that need quarterbacks that bypassed him, they’re going to regret that,” Fangio said ahead of Sunday’s Eagles-Giants matchup.
Fangio, like many others across the league, came away impressed by Dart’s primetime performance in a 34-17 win against the Eagles two Thursdays ago.
Dart, the No. 25 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, completed 17 of 25 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown. Dart was deadly with his legs, too, rushing for 58 yards and a score.
Dart’s numbers weren’t gaudy, but his play was exceptional. He was poised in the pocket, extended plays and converted multiple third-down opportunities.
In that game, Dart joined Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson as the only QBs in the Super Bowl era with 50-plus rushing yards in each of their first three starts. He also became the first rookie QB to defeat a reigning Super Bowl MVP (Hurts) head-to-head in primetime in his first three starts.
Through four starts now, Dart has completed 60.2% of his passes for 791 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 178 yards and three scores. And he’s done all this without Malik Nabers, the Giants’ injured Pro Bowl wide receiver.
Dart, an All-SEC performer out of Ole Miss, was the second quarterback off the board in the 2025 draft, behind only No. 1 pick Cam Ward of the Titans. QB-needy teams like the Saints and Browns waited until the second and third round, respectively, to take a signal-caller.
Clearly, Fangio thinks that was a mistake.
“Obviously, (Dart is) very athletic,” the 67-year-old coordinator said. “An elite scrambler. I think the coaches have done a great job with him. They’ve developed the offense around him. He throws the ball very well in the intermediate and deep. And he’s a good player.”
Fangio and the Eagles (5-2) will face Dart and the Giants (2-5) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. The game will air on FOX.
