The New York Giants (2-5) will visit the Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Sunday afternoon in a Week 8 battle.
That, of course, provides those of us here at Giants Wire the opportunity to hypothetically steal from the Eagles’ roster in search of depth and/or talent upgrades for Big Blue.
As we noted in Week 6, the Eagles sport one of the deepest and most talented rosters in football, providing a smorgasbord of options to choose from for this exercise, both offensively and defensively. It’s an embarrassment of riches.
Two weeks ago, Giants Wire stole wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Eagles, and he proceeded to haul in six receptions for 121 yards and two touchdowns against the Vikings (9 rec., 80 yards against the Giants). Needless to say, we won’t bore you by repeating that pick.
Similar to Week 6, consideration was given to linebacker Jihaad Campbell, offensive tackles Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson, running back Saquon Barkley, quarterback Jalen Hurts, and wide receiver DeVonta Smith.
Ultimately, we settled on a player who would help solve the Giants’ most pressing (current) issue: Cornerback Cooper DeJean.
DeJean may not be having the same dominant season he did as a rookie, particularly against the run, but he’s still very strong in coverage, earning a Pro Football Focus of 81.5 (coverage), which is the third-highest in football among cornerbacks behind Cor’Dale Flott (83.8) and Charvarius Ward (83.0).
With Paulson Adebo injured, a lacking reserve cast, and the ongoing struggles of Deonte Banks, DeJean would come in and immediately assume the CB2 role, allowing Flott to thrive as CB1. The combination (and trio when Adebo is back on the field) would also boost the Giants’ pass rush by slowing down opposing quarterbacks.
And once Adebo does return (which may be this week), he would slide into his CB1 role, Flott to CB2, and then DeJean could take over for the struggling Dru Phillips in the slot.
What do you say, Giants fans? Would you steal DeJean from the Eagles or go in an entirely different direction?
