Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon on his expectations of rookies

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon spoke with the media at the Arizona Cardinals training center in Tempe on the first day of rookie minicamp.

The full NFL schedule for 2025 will not be released until May 14, but one aspect is already known. The Arizona Cardinals will not play in any of the league’s seven international games.

The seven-game international slate is the largest in league history. In each of the past three seasons, the league held five games on foreign soil.

This schedule also features three new destinations: Berlin, Dublin and Madrid. Ireland and Spain are both new markets, while the league’s previous Germany games have been held in Munich or Frankfurt.

In each matchup, the latter team — the “host” — was designated by the NFL ahead of time. Of the seven hosts, only the Colts are a road opponent for the Cardinals this season, meaning that was their only possible international game.

Instead, all 17 Cardinals games will be held in the U.S. Their most recent trip abroad was in 2022, when they lost to the 49ers, 38-10, in Mexico City.

Back in 2005, the Cardinals played in the league’s first-ever international regular-season game, defeating the 49ers, 31-14. They also played abroad in 2017, losing to the Rams, 33-0, in London.

They could have better chances of playing internationally in 2026. The NFL is introducing a game in Melbourne, Australia, which will feature the Rams as the host team. The Rams, of course, are an annual opponent of the Cardinals in the NFC West.

The league could also return to Mexico City in 2026. It has been unable to play there in recent years due to preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Estadio Azteca.
