‘High energy conversations.’ Bengals’ Zac Taylor on Ted Karras

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor on center Ted Karras: “Three words to describe him: high energy conversations.”

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor forecasted Trey Hendickson would be limited in the team’s Oct. 22 practice if he practiced at all, and that was the case for the 2024 NFL sack champion.

Hendrickson (hip) was officially listed on the team’s Oct. 22 injury report as limited ahead of the Oct. 26 home game at Paycor Stadium against the winless New York Jets.

Asked about Hendrickson’s status prior to the practice commencing, Taylor said the team would take a day-to-day approach to the player’s injury, which prevented him from playing in Cincinnati’s Oct. 16 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A Bengals (3-4) victory against New York (0-7) would lift Cincinnati back at .500 after enduring a four-game losing streak. Hendrickson’s presence would likely go a long way toward aiding in Cincinnati against the Jets, whose quarterback situation is confused with time winding down ahead of the scheduled 1 p.m. kickoff.

The Jets appeared set to start backup Tyrod Taylor at Paycor Stadium due to the struggles of Ohio State product and opening-week starter Justin Fields, but Taylor was limited during New York’s Oct. 22 practice due to a knee injury.

‘Sauce’ Gardner hampered by concussion ahead of Cincinnati return

Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, the heralded University of Cincinnati product, is having his Cincinnati homecoming thrown into doubt as he was in concussion protocol, according to the Jets, and did not participate in their Oct. 22 practice.

Gardner was a lockdown corner for UC during their 13-1 season and run to the College Football Playoff semifinal.

Gardner has faced the Bengals previously, but Oct. 22 would be his first time playing the Bengals in Cincinnati. He faced the Bengals during a Week 3, Sept. 25, 2022, contest at MetLife Stadium and played effectively against both star Bengals receivers, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
