ST. MARYS AT RITCHIE

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday

Last year’s result: St. Marys 27, Ritchie County 7

St. Marys (5-2): def. Ravenswood 13-0; lost to Oak Glen 53-18; lost to Cameron 40-2; def. Webster County 49-18; def. Frontier 37-14; def. Gilmer County 42-20; def. Magnolia 44-14

Ritchie County (2-5): lost to Tyler Consolidated 38-14; lost to Doddridge County 48-0; lost to South Harrison 60-34; lost to Braxton County 16-6; def. Gilmer County 40-12; lost to Wahama 53-8; def. Tygarts Valley 26-12

Key St. Marys players: Eli Wilson (RB/DE), Jeremiah DeMoss (QB/LB), Jace Larsen (OL/DE)

Key Ritchie County players: Turner Shriver (QB/LB), Carter Satterfield (RB/LB), Kellen Cress (WR/DL)

Game notes: Like the four seasons or the holiday season being an annual event, you can count on Ritchie County and St. Marys hooking up at least once every year. The two schools have met on the football field every year since the series began in 1987. The Blue Devils have won the last three meetings and lead the series 28-10.

St. Marys used a productive second half to pull away from Magnolia last week on homecoming. Eli Wilson, who rushed for 165 yards, scored three of his four touchdowns as the Blue Devils outscored the Blue Eagles 28-8 after halftime.

Ritchie County running back Carter Satterfield rushed for 114 yards and quarterback Turner Shriver threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns as the Rebels built a 26-0 lead by intermission.

St. Marys has its work cut out with Tyler Consolidated and Wirt County waiting in the wings to close out the regular season. On the other hand, Ritchie County has a smoother path with Ravenswood (0-7) and Calhoun County (2-6).

DODDRIDGE AT WILLIAMSTOWN

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday

Last year’s result: Williamstown 35, Doddridge County 13

Doddridge County (7-0): def. Liberty Raleigh 41-6; def. Ritchie County 48-0; def. Tyler Consolidated 47-6; def. Ravenswood 47-0; def. Petersburg 21-7; def. South Harrison 34-8; def. Braxton County 45-15

Williamstown (3-4): lost to James Monroe 26-25; lost to Wheeling Central Catholic 47-19; def. Roane County 45-21; lost to Chapmanville 50-13; lost to Marietta, 14-6; def. Poca, 38-19; def. South Harrison 54-36

Key Doddridge County players: Brysen Dixon (QB), Landon Thomas (WR/DE), Lyric Blake (RB/DB)

Key Williamstown players: Breck Allen (QB/DB), Christian Hoosier (OL/DL), Carson Haines (WR/DB), Jackson Kerr (RB/LB), Carter Hoops (RB/LB/PK), Jacob MacIver (RB/LB)

Game notes: Will this be the year Doddridge County finally finds a way to pull off a win against Williamstown? The Yellowjackets have won the last seven meetings with only one outcome ending in single digits.

Doddridge County has rolled through its first seven opponents, and even though Williamstown has experienced its share of ups and downs, don’t discount the Yellowjackets. The road to conclude the regular season doesn’t get any easier for the Bulldogs as they close with two new opponents in No.15 Lincoln (3-4) and No. 6 Mingo Central (7-0).

This Friday is Williamstown’s best opportunity to determine its own fate. The 19th-ranked Yellowjackets conclude the regular season with Wayne, which will be coming off a bye week, and Scott which was a state semifinalist last season but is 1-6 this year.

LINSLY AT PARKERSBURG SOUTH

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday

Last year’s result: Parkersburg South 35, Linsly 28

Linsly (1-5): lost to Westinghouse 32-7; def. Brooke 42-0; lost to St. Clairsville 24-14; lost to Steubenville 55-7; lost to New Philadelphia 49-7; lost to Barnesville 34-7

Parkersburg South (2-5): lost to Wheeling Park 23-7; lost to University 38-27; lost to Woodrow Wilson 31-7; lost to Parkersburg 20-17; def. John Marshall 41-14; def. Hurricane 49-21; lost to Morgantown 45-10

Key Linsly players: Braden Wade (QB), Lucca Troullos (WR/FS), Justin Heckman (WR/FS)

Key Parkersburg South players: Dedrick Riggs (RB/OLB), Kinzyn Lutchmansingh (QB/OLB), Taj Joyce (WR/CB), Kamero Jackson (WR/OLB)

Game notes: For an offense looking to get back on track, Linsly may have arrived just in time for Parkersburg South. Last week against Barnesville, Linsly allowed quarterback Cole Francis to throw for 219 yards. Against Morgantown, South managed just 35 yards of total offense in the first half. The Patriots lone touchdown occurred with 47 seconds remaining in regulation with quarterback Kinzyn Lutchmansingh hooking up with Taj Joyce for a 28-TD pass. Lutchmansingh finished the game with 112 yards through the air.

Ranked 14th in Class AAAA this week, South can stabilize a playoff berth in the finals week of the regular season. Take away No. 7 Spring Mills next week, and the Patriots have a 1-6 Cabell Midland to close out the schedule.

Linsly and South have split their four previous meetings.

RHS (3-5) results: lost to South Charleston, 27-23; d. Ravenswood, 49-0; d. Lincoln County, 45-0; d. Point Pleasant, 42-23; lost to Nitro, 48-6; lost to Roane County, 38-36; lost to Winfield, 58-21; lost to Herbert Hoover, 62-14

Key PHS players: QB Alex Greer, RB Sylas Cheuvront, LB Devin Widman, DE Adam Elder

Key RHS players: QB Jackson Moore, RB Cody Lawrence, WR Parker Keller, TE Carter Neal

Game notes: For the first time in a decade the Big Reds and Vikings will square off.

Class AAA, No. 18 Ripley and second-year head coach Ryan Simon, who will have a bye next week before heading to Nicholas County, enter senior night on a four-game losing streak.

Class AAAA, No. 10 PHS snapped a two-game slide with a senior night win last Friday.

“They have two kids that are as good of skill guys that we’ve seen all year,” PHS head coach Matt Kimes admitted of Vikings Cody Lawrence and Parker Keller while noting “number 9 (Carter Neal) would play for most teams in the state. We’ve got to know where they are at all times.

“We need to win the game in the trenches, control the line of scrimmage on both sides in order to win this game. Big game to build momentum toward the end of the regular season. Happy that it’s a short road trip so that our fans can come and support us.”

The Big Reds have won four straight in a series they lead 6-1 with the only setback (34-0) coming back in 1989 at Memorial Stadium when the Vikings went 10-0 for head coach Frank Marino.

MOUNT VIEW AT MAGNOLIA

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday

MVHS (1-6) results: lost to River View, 30-0; lost to Man, 42-0; lost to Tolsia, 50-0; lost to Craig County (Va.), 56-8; lost to Wyoming East, 20-0; d. Summers County, 16-14; lost to Tug Valley, 60-28

MHS (0-7) results: lost to Wirt County, 47-12; lost to River, 42-0; lost to Bridgeport, 42-18; lost to Monroe Central, 47-12; lost to Tyler Consolidated, 35-0; lost to Frontier, 34-22; lost to St. Marys, 44-14

Key MVHS players: QB Zion Jackson, RB Aaron Hood, WR Zaylen Jackson

Key MHS players: QB Kingston Christen, WR Conner Carpenter, WR Finn Loy, RB Kraytin Nice

Game notes: Opportunities are dwindling for third-year head coach Craig Mason and the Blue Eagles to register a victory.

Injuries have been a tough factor for Magnolia this year, but Mount View has managed just one victory itself.

It’s senior night for the Blue Eagles, who end the season with road trips to Valley and Clay-Battelle.

The Golden Knights trail the all-time series 3-1 and the two teams have not met in 20 years. The last matchup came in 2005 when the Mark Batton-led Blue Eagles won 49-14 at Princeton’s Anne S. Hunnicutt Stadium in the opening round of the playoffs.

NICHOLAS AT ROANE

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Last year’s score: Did not meet

NCHS (2-5) results: lost to Oak Hill, 21-17; lost to Chapmanville, 24-12; d. Shady Spring, 46-16; d. Lincoln, 63-48; lost to Midland Trail, 20-19; lost Bluefield, 36-7; lost to Greenbrier East, 41-14

RCHS (6-1) results: d. Greenbrier West, 67-14; d. Clay County, 49-14; lost to Williamstown, 45-21; d. Braxton County, 46-20; d. Ripley, 38-36; d. Ravenswood, 48-0; d. Scott, 42-0

Key NCHS players: QB Colton Hellems, RB Devin Nash, WR Lucas Milam

Key RCHS players: QB Jacob Greathouse, DE Garrett Brabham, RB Javon Letourneau, RB Koltyn Starcher

Game notes: Two-win Nicholas County could be in trouble come Friday night.

During last week’s home loss to Greenbrier East, Spartan running back A.J. Godfrey set the school record with five rushing touchdowns.

Class AA No. 8 Roane County, which has rushed for 2,740 yards and is averaging 8.6 stripes an attempt, has only thrown it 27 times.

Although the Raiders trail the all-time series 5-9, RCHS had lost seven straight before winning the last meeting in 2021, 18-15.

WIRT AT VALLEY

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday

Last year’s score: Did not meet

WCHS (5-2) results: lost to Eastern, 47-13; d. Magnolia, 47-12; d. Calhoun County, 42-12; d. Gilmer County, 55-26; lost to Wahama, 55-6; d. Webster County, 54-6; d. Pocahontas County, 46-14

VHS (0-7) results: lost to Tygarts Valley, 54-13; lost to Clay-Battelle, 48-6; lost to Frontier, 52-8; lost to Meadow Bridge, 55-12; lost to Bridgeport, 43-6; lost to Cameron, 44-16; lost to Calhoun County, 65-12

Key WCHS players: QB Tyler Smith, TE Jake Moore, TE Easton Wyer, RB Anthony Morgan

Key VHS players: QB Koleton Kinkade, WR Gage Wichterman, WR Wyatt Rogers

Game notes: The Lumberjacks join Magnolia and Richwood as the lone remaining winless Class A programs.

The Tigers, who checked in at No. 11 in the latest ratings, should be able to get plenty of younger guys experience in this tilt.

Wirt County, which leads the all-time series 11-7 and is seeking a seventh straight triumph, will have senior night next versus No. 18 Tolsia before ending the campaign at current No. 10 St. Marys.

RAVENSWOOD AT CLAY

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Last year’s result: Did not meet

Ravenswood (0-7): lost to St. Marys 13-0; lost to Ripley 49-0; lost to Poca 35-18; lost to Doddridge County 47-0; lost to Sissonville 28-19; lost to Roane County 48-0; lost to Buffalo 27-14

Clay County (5-3): lost to Midland Trail 41-13; def. Buffalo 44-14; lost to Roane County 49-14; def. Sissonville 54-21; def. South Harrison 37-16; lost to Logan 14-6; def. Calhoun County 56-0; def. Poca 29-0

Key Ravenswood players: Jacob Simmons (RB/OLB), Owen Curtis (QB/OLB)

Key Clay County players: Cooper Collins (QB/DB); Joel Elliott (WR/DB)

Game notes: Not much more wiggle room remains for No. 11 Clay County as the Panthers close the regular season with a Ravenswood team seeking to end a 23-game losing streak followed by No. 20 Braxton (3-5) the final week of the regular season.

If Ravenswood can find any type of good fortune, there is a possibility the Red Devils can win a game or two or three against either Clay County, Ritchie County (2-5) or South Harrison (4-4)

This week marks only the second meeting in the past 10 years between Ravenswood and Clay County, and the first since 2020.

SOUTH HARRISON AT TYLER

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday

Last year’s result: South Harrison 51, Tyler Consolidated 35

South Harrison (4-4): def. Braxton County 23-15; def. Lincoln 20-19; def. Ritchie County 60-34; def. Poca 44-38; lost to Clay County 37-16; lost to Philip Barbour 49-22; lost to Doddridge County 34-8; lost to Williamstown 54-36

Tyler Consolidated (4-3): def. Ritchie County 38-14; lost to Wahama 28-13; lost to Doddridge County 47-6; def. Cameron 14-12; def. Magnolia 35-0; def. Oak Glen 29-21

Key South Harrison players: Shepard Paugh (RB/LB), Zane Harlow (RB/DL)

Key Tyler Consolidated players: Reese Davis (QB/MLB), Gideon Winfrey (RB/OLB), Brayden Neff (RB), Caden Hall (RB)

Game notes: In order to get off the playoff bubble, Tyler Consolidated must find success on the field and not necessarily rely on opponents on the schedule to give them assistance. Following No. 18 South Harrison, No. 17 Silver Knights meet Class A No. 10 St. Marys (5-2) then end the regular season against No. 8 Roane County (6-1).

South Harrison, on the other hand, may need some outside help, closing out the regular season with Ravenswood (0-7).

WARREN AT MARIETTA

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday

Last year’s result: Warren 35, Marietta 16

Warren (2-7): lost to Circleville, 16-15; lost to Morgan, 28-13; d. Logan, 27-21 (OT); lost to Independence, 35-0; lost to Union Local, 35-0; lost to Athens, 44-7; lost to John Marshall, 30-27; d. Point Pleasant, 35-24; lost to Fort Frye, 46-8

Marietta (2-7): lost to Morgan, 31-16; lost to John Marshall, 23-21; lost to Athens, 33-21; lost to Claymont, 12-0; lost to Whitehall-Yearling, 21-0; lost to Circleville, 41-21; d. Williamstown, 14-6; lost to Fort Frye, 35-0; d. Point Pleasant, 34-16

Key Warren players: QB Declan Johnson; WR Tanner Pepper; WR/DB Davin Dickel

Key Marietta players: RB/LB Kobe Alexander; RB/LB Will Tornes; OL/DL Teddy Bauer

Game notes: Unlike last year, the Warren-Marietta game won’t have any playoff stakes attached to it as both squads are already mathematically eliminated according to JoeEitel.com.

However, it’s still a rivalry game and there is plenty of incentive to win for both sides.

Warren and Marietta both are 2-7 and coming off blowout losses to Fort Frye but wins against Point Pleasant.

Each team has talented playmakers but has struggled to put up points at times this year. Whichever side can limit mistakes and come up with a big play or two will have the edge.

RIVER AT FRONTIER

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday

Last year’s result: Frontier 7, River 6

River (5-4): d. Perry Traditional (Pa.), 36-12; d. Buckeye Local, 21-12; lost to Monroe Central, 21-14; d. Magnolia, 42-0; lost to Cameron, 46-15; d. Federal Hocking, 62-12; d. Shadyside, 37-0; lost to Shenandoah, 33-0; lost to Caldwell, 40-7

Frontier (3-6): d. Bridgeport (Ohio), 36-13; lost to Miller, 20-14; lost to Clay-Battelle, 42-20; lost to Shadyside, 13-6; d. Valley (Wetzel), 52-8; lost to St. Marys, 37-14; lost to Conotton Valley, 54-34; d. Magnolia, 34-22; lost to Shenandoah, 32-22

Key River players: RB Trey Larrick; RB Wyatt Stalder; OL Carter Piatt

Key Frontier players: RB Caleb Kirkpatrick; QB Aaden Bills; WR Avery Powell

Game notes: Last year, Frontier needed a win against River and got it to close out the regular season and secure a playoff berth.

This year, the Cougars are already mathematically eliminated from postseason contention according to JoeEitel.com, but they’ll look to knock out the Pilots, who enter the final week rated 16th in Region 27. The top 12 teams make the playoffs.

Three weeks ago, River beat Shadyside without throwing a single pass.

The Pilots are looking to control the game via the ground attack, so the Cougars will have to be prepared to counter River’s run game.

WATERFORD AT BELPRE

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday

Last year’s result: Waterford 55, Belpre 0

Waterford (7-2): d. Vinton County, 50-12; d. Caldwell, 21-6; d. Shenandoah, 49-0; lost to Fort Frye, 28-0; lost to Nelsonville-York, 29-28; d. Eastern, 28-13; d. Southern, 47-0; d. Federal Hocking, 63-0; d. Trimble, 47-0

Belpre (2-7): lost to Fisher Catholic, 47-12; d. Federal Hocking, 34-6; lost to Alexander, 49-6; lost to Oak Glen, 43-0; d. Green, 56-0; lost to Steubenville Catholic, 51-18; lost to Trimble, 44-0; lost to Southern, 41-8; lost to Eastern, 55-14

Key Waterford players: RB Hayden Jones; QB Avery Pottmeyer; RB Trevin Zimmer

Key Belpre players: RB Carson Woodford; QB Malik Currie; WR Malakai Ensor

Game notes: Waterford has already clinched a top four seed and a first-round bye for the playoffs, meaning this week’s game against Belpre is essentially just a tune-up.

Still, don’t expect the Wildcats to let up at all as they look to carry momentum into the postseason. Waterford’s defense has not allowed a single point in its last three games, while the offense has flourished during that stretch after moving Hayden Jones to running back and Avery Pottmeyer to quarterback.

If Belpre can pull off the massive upset, it would be the Golden Eagles’ first time winning at least three games in a season since 2020.

POINT PLEASANT AT FORT FRYE

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday

Last year’s result: Fort Frye 35, Point Pleasant 7

Point Pleasant (0-7): lost to Fairland, 40-15; lost to Gallia Academy, 28-21; lost to Ripley, 42-23; lost to Herbert Hoover, 46-7; lost to Nitro, 56-13; lost to Warren, 35-24; lost to Marietta, 34-16

Fort Frye (7-1): lost to Barnesville, 35-7; d. West Muskingum, 36-7; d. Wheeling Central, 40-0; d. Waterford, 28-0; d. Caldwell, 31-7; d. Greenbrier West, 55-0; d. Marietta, 35-0; d. Warren, 46-8

Key Point Pleasant players: QB Caden Hill, WR Braxton Bauer, DB Isaiah Waminan

Key Fort Frye players: QB Grady Hesson; FB Kainan Bradford; K/TE Tytan Waller

Game notes: Fort Frye is currently the top-rated team in Region 23 but nothing is set in stone yet, so the Cadets will need to bring their A-game against Point Pleasant Friday to give themselves the best chance to secure the No. 1 spot.

The Big Blacks surrendered 34 points and more than 300 rushing yards last week to a Marietta offense that had been shut down by the Cadets the week before.

PPHS has surrendered less than 34 points in a game just once this season.

Barring a no-show effort from Fort Frye, look for the Cadets to win handily and head into the playoffs with as much momentum as any team around.
