The final week of the regular season is here, Week 10 that is.

Both Brookville and Central Clarion play Friday night with the Raiders traveling to Redbank Valley for a Division 2 game while the Wildcats go to their old home field to face off against Butler for the second straight year at PennWest Clarion’s Memorial Stadium.

Each game kicks off at 7 p.m.

What’s at stake? For the 3-6 Raiders, it’s probably a playoff berth in Class 3A. While defending champion Brockway (6-3) is headed back to the postseason for sure, it’s not known if St. Marys (3-6) or even the Raiders will enter with losing records. However, the Raiders appear playoff-bound if they beat Redbank Valley.

St. Marys hosts Moniteau (3-6) in a game the Dutch are favored.

The Wildcats (5-4), with three straight wins, are headed for a rematch with Karns City in the District 9 Class 2A final in what’s most likely a two-team bracket presuming Moniteau and Curwensville (2-7) don’t enter the postseason.

Pairings come out this weekend after the conclusion of Friday’s games.

Here’s a closer look at this week’s games:

Brookville (3-6) at

Redbank Valley (5-4)

The Raiders visit New Bethlehem to face the Bulldogs for the second straight year for a Week 10 matchup. Last year, the Bulldogs beat the Raiders 40-27.

While the Raiders were finishing strong in their 23-12 win at Cameron County, the Bulldogs did the same thing a bit more dramatically as they erased a 34-14 deficit with 8:34 left in the third quarter and took the lead for good after 23 straight points for a 37-34 lead and win by the 8:18 mark of the fourth quarter.

Bulldogs quarterback Braylon Wagner had one of his best games, passing for 220 yards and two TDs while rushing for 207 yards and two TDs. For the season, he’s thrown for 1,886 yards and 22 TDs against nine interceptions while rushing for 380 yards and three TDs.

Earlier this year, Wagner passed the Raiders’ Jack Krug on the all-time passing TD list and he’s now at 113 TDs — Krug is now fourth at 108 — behind Jase Ferguson’s 148 and Port Allegany’s Matt Bodamer’s 137. On the all-time passing yardage list, Wagner sits at 8,818 yards which is fourth behind Bodamer (10,948), Ferguson (10,525) and Brockway’s Derek Buganza (9,752). Krug is now fifth with 8,362 yards.

“It’s a familiar opponent,” Raiders head coach Bill Morrison said. “We played them last year and scrimmage them often. We want to be able to establish the running game and get the ball to our playmakers on the outside.

“Braylon is heckuva quarterback. He’s a dual threat, so containing him as best we can is the goal.”

For the Raiders, it’s a matter of continuing without a couple of key players lost to injury with leading rusher Sam Krug and receiver Parker Kalgren. Against Cameron County, Chase Nimmo debuted in the backfield and ran for 106 yards on his first 16 career varsity carries

Quarterback Trenton Colgan (105-for-193, 1,175 yards, 13 TDs, 10 Ints.; 63-138, 2 TDs rushing) keys the passing game with some running threat as well. Hayden Freeman (32-379, 7 TDs) and Dante Morey (12-176) are his top receiving targets.

Also for the Bulldogs, Connor Colwell (96-393, 3 TDs) is the leading rusher while Jaxon Huffman (59-942, 7 TDs) is closing in on a 1,000-yard receiving season. Other Wagner receiving targets are Carson Gould (34-357, 7 TDs), Jace Clowser (32-286, 3 TDs) and Easton Magagnotti (14-186, 3 TDs).

The Bulldogs are the most common foe for the Raiders. This is the 73rd meeting between the teams — including New Bethlehem High, which consolidated into Redbank Valley in the early 1950s — and Redbank Valley leads the series 35-31-6.

Butler (7-2) at Central Clarion (5-4),

PennWest, Memorial Stadium

It’s the second year in a row the Class 6A Golden Tornado and Wildcats meet. Last year, the Wildcats won 49-14 at Butler.

This time around, the Golden Tornado are 7-2 coming off last year’s 4-6 season. A WPIAL team geographically, the football program was deemed ineligible by the district to compete in the postseason.

Butler’s losses have come to unbeaten Hollidaysburg (33-6) and Wheeling Park, W.V., last week (20-13) with wins over Shaler (32-26), Brashear (48-24), Meadville (48-34), Westinghouse (40-14), Connellsville (44-27), University from Morgantown, W.V. (35-27) and Taylor Allderdice (35-8).

In Week 7, DuBois beat Connellsville 38-24 while Karns City topped Westinghouse 28-24.

The Golden Tornado boast a balance offense led by junior quarterback Nico Baggetta (90-for-182, 1,244 yards, 11 TDs, 7 Ints.; 103-392, 10 TDs), running back Mark Klemz (131-875, 14 TDs), receivers Deacon Simko (30-432, 3 TDs) and Marcus Vicari (11-205, 1 TD).

Last year, Klemz ran for 20 yards on 12 carries as the Wildcats limited Butler to 51 rushing yards. Simko caught four passes for 59 yards with one touchdown. Baggetta did not start at quarterback.

The Wildcats got a big game from Jase Ferguson with 126 yards and three TDs passing while Ethan Rex ran for 79 yards on 11 carries with a TD and caught three passes for 50 yards and two TDs.

This year, Rex helps key the Wildcats’ offense, rushing for 637 yards on 97 carries with eight TDs to go with 11 receptions for 192 yards and four TDs. Quarterback Carter Hindman, coming off a strong outing in last week’s win over DuBois, is now over 1,000 yards passing for the season at 1,106, completing 74 of 137 with 10 TDs and seven interceptions.

Rex’s top receiving target is Mason Burford, who has 43 cates for 621 yards and three TDs.

The Wildcats likely get Week 11 off since it’ll probably be them and Karns City for the D9 title in two weeks.
