Bengals head coach Zac Taylor on the starting guard position in Week 8
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor addresses the starters at guard position for Week 8.
Trey Hendrickson’s official injury report status remained the same during the Cincinnati‘s Bengals Oct. 23 practice ahead of the New York Jets visit to Paycor Stadium on Oct. 26.
Also on the injury front for this week’s opponent, the Bengals wouldn’t have learned much as far as which Jets quarterback they’d face Oct. 26, but Cincinnati should have a better idea about Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner’s availability as the former UC All-American and Jets top cornerback looks unlikely to see the field.
Hendrickson (hip), the Bengals’ star defensive end, was again limited in practice Oct. 23. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Oct. 22 that the team was taking a day-to-day approach to the injury that prevented Hendrickson from playing Oct. 16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Like Hendrickson, Jets backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor (knee) was limited during New York’s Oct. 23 practice as he and his team remained non-committal about their quarterback situation ahead of the Cincinnati game.
During his Oct. 22 news conference, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn cited competitive reasons for not naming a starting quarterback, so the Bengals might not get full confirmation of New York’s choice of starting signal-caller until Oct. 26.
Opening-week starter and Ohio State product Justin Fields was expected to be benched for the game against the Bengals as New York failed to score a single touchdown in its last two games.
Jets ownership also publicly made critical comments of Fields play, casting further doubt on his status for the Bengals game.

Gardner didn’t participate in the Jets’ Oct. 23 practice, marking his second consecutive day on the sidelines. According to an ESPN report, Gardner is likely to miss what would be kind of Cincinnati homecoming when the Jets play the Bengals.
Gardner, a key contributor to the Bearcats’ 13-1 College Football Playoff-qualifying team in 2021, would be making his first in-game appearance as a professional in Cincinnati if he manages to see the Paycor Stadium field, but that seems unlikely now.
Gardner faced the Bengals previously during a Sept. 25, 2022, game at MetLife Stadium and played effectively against both star Bengals receivers, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
