The Oklahoma State football program fired longtime head coach Mike Gundy following the Cowboys’ 1-2 start to the 2025 season. Since his dismissal, the team has dropped four consecutive games under interim head coach Doug Meacham.
The school is now fully on the hunt for its next head football coach, led by Athletic Director Chad Weiberg.
On Friday, Oklahoma State announced a four-year contract extension for Weiberg, “ensuring continuity in leadership for Cowboy Athletics as the landscape of college sports continues to evolve.”
“Chad is providing strong, steady leadership during one of the most transformative periods in college athletics history,” OSU President Jim Hess said in a statement from the school. “He has the ability to navigate complex challenges and keep our student-athletes and programs at the forefront.”

Weiberg has been the Cowboys’ athletic director since 2021, leading the school through some major NIL and transfer portal changes in the landscape of college athletics.
“I thank the Board of Regents and President Hess for their continued confidence in our leadership and vision for OSU Athletics,” Weiberg said in a statement. “Oklahoma State is a special place, and our coaches and staff are committed to ensuring our student-athletes have every resource and opportunity to compete at the highest level. The future is bright for Cowboy and Cowgirl Athletics.”

Several names have been floated as potential replacements for Gundy, including Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson (former OSU quarterback), Texas State head coach G.J. Kinne, USF head coach Alex Golesh and North Texas head coach Eric Morris.
Oklahoma State will look to stop their six-game losing streak in a matchup against the No. 14 Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday. The Big 12 clash will kickoff at 4 p.m. ET from Lubbock’s Jones AT&T Stadium.
