LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Las Vegas Raiders hosted a big welcome for two historic schools playing at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday.

The NFL team welcomed Grambling State and Jackson State to its Henderson headquarters ahead of the first Official P&G Las Vegas HBCU Classic.

Both schools’ football teams got to tour the facilities. Two flag football teams from Hyde Park and O’Callaghan middle schools also enjoyed a junior training camp on the indoor practice field.

Raiders President Sandra Douglass Morgan said the team is honored to host the HBCU Classic and elevate the profile of the two schools in Southern Nevada.

“It’s such a strong culture that they have in the South with HBCUs,” she said. “So being able to bring that out West and exposing Las Vegas … to just the bands, the camaraderie, the collegial environment, it’s just great. And I think that makes the stadium so special.”

The festivities continue with a pep rally Friday at the Fremont Street Experience, featuring Grambling State’s “World Famed” Tiger Marching Band and Jackson State’s “Sonic Boom of the South.” The rally starts at 4 p.m.

Kickoff for the HBCU Classic is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Allegiant Stadium. The game will stream live on the free service HBCU GO and at hbcugo.tv.
