With the NFL’s trade deadline (Nov. 4) drawing closer, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell recently projected 13 trades for NFL clubs, including one involving the Denver Broncos.
Barnwell projected the Broncos sending a 2028 sixth-round draft pick to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for (Sean Payton-favorite) Taysom Hill and a 2028 seventh-round pick. That compensation sounds reasonable, but a trade would probably be hard to pull off in reality because Hill has a cat hit north of $14 million this year.
“The Saints are on the hook for $13.7 million in dead money in 2026 if they trade Hill now, but they’re already expecting to eat that money once Hill’s contract voids after the 2025 campaign,” Barnwell wrote for ESPN. So if the Saints are willing to eat that money in 2026 (and pay some of his 2025 salary), a trade could perhaps be feasible.
Hill has been healthy for three games this season, rushing for one touchdown and hauling in two receptions for 12 yards. He had one of the best seasons of his career under Payton in 2020, recording 555 yards from scrimmage and scoring nine touchdowns. The 35-year-old quarterback/tight end has totaled 3,867 all-purpose yards and scored 56 touchdowns in 108 career games.
