Earlier this week, NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent told Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio that Denver Broncos inside linebacker Justin Strnad would be “held accountable” for making contact with referee Brad Allen following the team’s win in Week 7.
Two days later, the league followed through with that promise.

The NFL announced Saturday that Strnad received a $15,486 fine for making “contact with an official.” The 29-year-old linebacker appeared to bump into Allen while celebrating the team’s 33-32 win over the New York Giants on Sunday. Video shows that Allen then appeared to push Strnad, and fellow linebacker Dre Greenlaw then ran after the official, yelling at him. The league gave Greenlaw a one-game suspension for his actions, a ban that will cost him $282,777.
Strnad will appeal the fine, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis, hoping that it might be reduced.
Broncos coach Sean Payton was asked about Strnad’s looming fine after Friday’s practice.

“I’m not going to comment on that because over the years I’ve learned it doesn’t matter,” Payton said. “My opinion relative to that doesn’t matter.”
When asked if he received a fine for running on the field in the fourth quarter, Payton said, “Not that I’m aware of.”
Denver cornerback Riley Moss was also fined, but his punishment was unrelated to the end-of-game incident with Allen. Moss was docked $8,253 after a facemask penalty against Giants receiver Wan’Dale Robinson in the third quarter.
The Broncos had zero player fines going into last week’s game. They now have two on the season, plus a suspension.
