The 5-2 Seattle Seahawks aren’t going to be aggressive sellers at the trade deadline. If there’s only player general manager John Schneider may consider trading though, it’s cornerback Riq Woolen. Woolen is in a contract year and the coaching staff has been consistently disappointed with his performances.
We’ve identified three potential landing spots for Woolen via trade near the deadline.
The Indianapolis Colts shockingly possess the NFL’s best record at 6-1. Despite that, their secondary has occasionally been a weakness. Lou Anarumo’s defense is allowing the fourth-most passing yards per game (255.4). Anarumo likes big-bodied physical cornerbacks on the boundary, making Woolen a potential scheme fit.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are pretty average in the secondary. They rank 21st in terms of passing yardage allowed. Rookie Benjamin Morrison and veteran journeyman Kindle Vildor are among their depth options behind Zyon McCollum and Jamel Dean. Woolen would be an upgrade.
The Detroit Lions recently lost cornerback Terrion Arnold to a potential season-ending shoulder injury. Sophomore corner Ennis Rakestraw Jr. is also on season-ending IR. The Lions are really banged up in the secondary, relying on Rock Ya-Sin and Amik Robertson at outside corner. Woolen would immediately step into a starting role.
