At the start of the season, South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers was viewed as one of the top QB prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft. But after the way he finished today’s loss to Alabama, NFL fans don’t want to touch him with a 10-foot pole.

Sellers had the Gamecocks in a close one against Alabama for the entirety of the game. The two teams were never more than one touchdown apart at any point in a game where the Crimson Tide were favored by 11.5 points. Sellers was seemingly having the best game of his career with over 200 passing yards and 67 rushing yards plus two total touchdowns.

Late in the fourth quarter, Alabama tied the game at 22-22 with just over two minutes to play. Sellers got the ball and was primed to make a deep drive to potentially kick the game-winning field goal.

But on the second play of the drive, Sellers fumbled the ball – deep in South Carolina territory. Alabama recovered the ball, went down to score a touchdown and ultimately won the game 29-22.

“Not my QB”

The fan backlash to Sellers fumbling the game away was swift and fierce. Many have declared that they don’t trust Sellers as an NFL quarterback anymore:

“LaNorris Sellers is a projected first round pick and I have 0 confidence that he could get them to midfield – and he didn’t,” one user declared.

“Lanorris sellers is not ready for the NFL . Another Anthony Richardson honestly,” another wrote.

“LaNorris Sellers is better off staying in college for another year. He’s got the tools and the skill, but he’s not close to being NFL ready yet,” wrote a third.

“Any NFL team thinking about drafting LaNorris Sellers better be prepared to waste a pick. He’s at best a project.”

Since arriving at South Carolina, Sellers has impressed coaches and fans alike with his powerful arm, mobility, and football IQ. He began his college career developing behind veteran quarterbacks but quickly earned playing time with standout performances in limited action, showcasing his potential as the team’s future offensive leader. By the 2025 season, Sellers had become a focal point of the Gamecocks’ offense, displaying growth as both a passer and a playmaker.

Views on Sellers are clearly changing amid the team’s 3-5 start to the season though.
