PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Arizona Cardinals are moving forward with plans for a new training facility, but they won’t be staying at their existing location in Tempe as previously announced.
The team said in February that plans were in place to invest in a new $100 million facility on their current property in the East Valley. But on Tuesday, the Cardinals announced that the new training facility and team headquarters will be built in the Paradise Ridge area of north Phoenix, just north of the Loop 101 and west of Scottsdale Road.
“Our goal has always been to provide our players and coaches with the best possible environment to prepare and perform at the highest level,” Cardinals Owner and President Michael Bidwill said in a news release. “As we evaluated our options, it became clear that we needed more space than what was available at our current location or elsewhere in Tempe. We are deeply grateful to the City of Tempe for its incredible support over the past three decades and for its continued partnership. And we are just as excited to welcome this new chapter in our team’s history.”

The Cardinals purchased the 217-acre property for $136 million at an Arizona State Land Department (ASLD) auction this summer. They did so with the help of real estate development company Mortenson.
Designed by sports architecture firm Rossetti, plans for the new facility include three natural-grass outdoor practice fields and a fieldhouse with a full-size indoor turf field. The “world-class” training facility will also feature an expanded, modern locker room and state-of-the-art team spaces.
And it’s not just a new training facility. The new Phoenix location will be a mixed-use development site covering 30 acres and 250,000 square feet—roughly double the team’s current footprint in Tempe.
As for the rest of the space, the organization is working with the City of Phoenix and the Arizona Commerce Authority to consider other possible options, including corporate headquarters for other businesses, restaurants, retail, medical facilities and potential residential development.
“The Arizona Cardinals’ new headquarters and state-of-the-art practice facility is an exciting, welcome addition to our city’s Headquarters Alley,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said. “I’m grateful for this game-changing investment and the energy this project will bring to our community.”
The opening for the Cardinals new headquarters and training facility is tentatively set for sometime in 2028.

“The Cardinals are Arizona’s home team – I’m a huge football fan and always look forward to seeing them play on Sunday,” Tempe Mayor Corey Woods responded when asked about the team’s decision to move. “On behalf of the City of Tempe, we thank Michael Bidwill and the Arizona Cardinals for their three decades of partnership and wish them much success in the future.”
If the new location sounds familiar, that site was previously tied to efforts to bring an NHL team back to the Valley after the Arizona Coyotes moved to Utah. But in June of 2024, the ASLD postponed the auction for land over a special use permit that needed to be filed regarding plans for a new hockey arena and entertainment district.
At the time, then-Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega opposed the project that bordered the East Valley city, citing issues including a lack of infrastructure in the area.
