Cincinnati Bengals postgame wrap| What went wrong in loss to Jets

Enquirer beat writer Kelsey Conway breaks down what went wrong in the Bengals’ loss to the Jets on Oct. 26.

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase vented his frustration as reporters asked him questions at his locker after the team’s fourth-quarter collapse and stunning Week 8 loss to the New York Jets.

“The game should’ve been over when it was (31-16),” Chase said. “Should’ve been over. Should’ve been over. … I’m more frustrated we lost tonight than anything. I play offense. I’m not worried about what the defense (has) gotta do. I’m just cheering them on every play.”

Chase was asked whether he was stunned after the team squandered its lead.

“Next question,” Chase replied. “Next question.”

What stood out the most to Chase?

“The last possession,” Chase said. “Both (offensively and defensively).”

Chase was asked to describe what went wrong late in the game.

“I mean we just didn’t execute,” Chase said. “Didn’t execute.”

Should the Bengals have to score more than 40 points to win games?

“I don’t think that’s how that works,” Chase said. “I just think that’s (the) NFL. Everybody’s good. Everybody knows how to play football. Everybody watches film. Gotta adjust.”

Chase was asked whether there’s still hope for this team.

“We’re still good,” Chase said. “We’ve just got to find a way to not put ourselves in positions like this, and be pissed off.”

Is this as angry as he’s been after a loss?

“I don’t know,” Chase said. “I don’t like losing. So, it (doesn’t) matter. We lost.”

How were the Jets able to get back into the game?

“After we scored on the fast drive, they scored, and they just kept scoring,” Chase replied.

Why has the team had a tendency to squander late leads over the past couple of seasons?

“I don’t know. That’s a Zac (Taylor) question. Ask Zac that,” Chase said.
