New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo went down with a dislocated ankle with 8:11 left in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The team announced after the game that Skattebo will undergo surgery Sunday night in a Philadelphia-area hospital
After attempting to catch a pass from Jaxson Dart that fell incomplete, Skattebo was on the ground immediately pointing to his right leg.
He was carted off the field with an air cast on his leg. The Giants announced that Skattebo is undergoing surgery Sunday night at a Philadelphia-area hospital.
“I was devastated,” Dart said. “It’s my boy, man, so seeing him go down and obviously reacting to what happened, that sucks. It’s the worst part of this game.”
A fourth-round pick, Skattebo entered the game leading the Giants with 398 rushing yards on 98 carries (4.1 yards per carry). He also had 23 catches for 189 more yards.
On Sunday, Skattebo had three carries for 12 yards and an 18-yard reception for a touchdown.
“Feel absolutely terrible for the young man,” said head coach Brian Daboll. “Obviously, saw it looked bad. I know you feel for anybody on your team that goes down and has a really bad injury and I feel, and I know the players feel the same way about [Skattebo].”
The Giants were emotional as Dart was taken off the field. Along with Dart, Skattebo has become an emotional leader of a Giants team that is showing progress and has gone 2-2 after an0-3 start.
