The Beach Football League is hoping to make a home in Hermosa Beach.
And on Saturday, May 10, two-time Super Bowl champion Tully Banta-Cain, who spent six seasons playing for the New England Patriots, brought the newly formed league to the sand with a daylong event on The Strand.
The Hermosa Beach event featured a high school tournament, exhibition adult flag and tackle games, and a kids zone.

Banta-Cain, now retired, was joined by multiple NFL players, including Quentin Lake and Neville Gallimore from the Los Angeles Rams; Denzel Perryman and Shawne Merriman from the Los Angeles Chargers; and other Super Bowl champions with the Denver Broncos, T.J. Ward and Malik Jackson.
The idea for the BFL developed in 2021 when Banta-Cain and cofounder Adam Cyril lived in the South Bay.
When Banta-Cain moved to the East Coast, they hosted the first official event in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, in 2024.
Now the BFL has eight approved locations, beginning with Hermosa Beach. Other locations will follow, including Wildwood, New Jersey; Santa Cruz; Oceanside; Coney Island, New York; Newport, Rhode Island; Hampton Beach; and the American Dream mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
