The LSU Tigers decided not to let Brian Kelly finish his fourth season in Baton Rouge, announcing his firing on Sunday.

The Tigers named associate head coach/running backs coach Frank Wilson as the interim head coach of the 5-3 program for the remainder of the season, as LSU conducts a national coaching search to find Kelly’s permanent successor.
LSU is expected to be one of the top coaching jobs in the hiring cycle for college football this year. However, the Tigers will face stiff competition to land an elite coach, with Penn State and Florida already searching for a new head coach.

They gave Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady the third-best (+400) odds to become the next head of the Tigers, behind Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin (+200) and Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall (+250).

Brady, 36, was LSU’s passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach when the Tigers won the 2019 College Football Playoff national championship. Following his time with LSU, Brady served as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers before joining the Bills as their quarterbacks coach in 2022.
Brady was promoted to interim offensive coordinator in 2023 before becoming the permanent offensive coordinator in 2024. His offensive play-calling helped quarterback Josh Allen win the NFL MVP award in 2024.
Because of his success with the Bills, Brady has been a hot name to become a head coach in the NFL in recent hiring cycles. His familiarity with LSU from the 2019 season makes him an intriguing candidate to replace Kelly.
Brady played wide receiver for William & Mary. He has no experience as a head coach since he began his coaching career at William & Mary as a linebackers coach in 2013.
Brady, a native of Pembroke Pines, Florida, also has ties to Penn State. He served as a graduate assistant for the Nittany Lions in 2015 and 2016.
Brady left PSU to become an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints in 2017, providing him with even stronger roots in the Louisiana region.
