After a stint with the Dallas Cowboys, former Detroit Lions cornerback Amani Oruwariye is signing a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans.
The Lions selected Oruwariye in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft out of Penn State following multiple All-Big Ten honors.
Through his first season, Oruwariye began working his way up the depth chart and started a pair of games and notched two picks as a rookie.
By his sophomore season, Oruwariye was nearly a full-time starter, getting the nod in 15 of 16 games, grabbing one interception and 53 total tackles.
The 2021 season was Oruwariye’s best as he started the first 14 games of the season and notched a team-leading 11 passes defensed and six interceptions.
A season-ending thumb injury derailed the end of his 2021 and Oruwariye lost his typical starting role during the 2022 season.
Oruwariye signed a one-year deal with the New York Giants in March 2023, but didn’t make the roster and was released after a stint on the practice squad.
The Jacksonville Jaguars brought Oruwariye onto the practice squad during the 2023 season and elevated him for a Week 17 matchup. After signing a reserve-future contract, he would eventually be released in August 2024.
The Cowboys were the last team to take a shot on the veteran, signing him to their practice squad two days after his release from the Jaguars.
Due to extensive injuries in the cornerback room, Dallas promoted Oruwariye in October and he made seven appearances with four starts.
Now Oruwariye, 29, will hope to get back on the field with the Titans.
Tennessee has made a point of stacking the cornerback room to create some competition and Oruwariye, as a veteran with 61 games under his belt, should have a shot to try and break into the rotation.
