The 49ers could be considered fortunate in regards to the injuries that took players out of game in their 26-15 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday at NRG Stadium
Coach Kyle Shanahan told local media via conference call on Monday afternoon that the following players who were injured in the Week 8 contest all are day to day, giving them the chance to play heading into Week 9 when the 49ers face the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.
QB Mac Jones (knee contusion)
DL Sam Okuayinonu (ankle)
DL Alfred Collins (shoulder)
DL Jordan Ellliott (ankle)
LB Dee Winters (knee)
San Francisco expects to open the practice window for left guard Ben Bartch on Wednesday, which could boost the production of the offensive line that has struggled to protect Jones in the passing game.
The news was not as positive for center Jake Brendel and edge rusher Bryce Huff, who both are likely to miss another game with hamstring injuries.
“Not going to guarantee it yet, but pretty unlikely,” Shanahan said of the two linemen.
The news was slightly more positive in regards to starting quarterback Brock Purdy, who missed his fourth consecutive game Sunday due to a toe injury. The signal-caller has been limited in practice for a few weeks but not healthy enough to be active on game day.
“I think it’s too early to say,” Shanahan said. “I don’t think it’s a long shot but he’s doing better and we will see how he’s doing Wednesday. If he’s doing good, he will get some reps.”
Ricky Pearsall, who has not been seen on the practice field in weeks due to a PCL injury, is getting healthier — but Shanahan was uncertain if the first-round draft pick would be ready to practice this week.
“I hope so,” Shanahan said. “I’m sure he’s doing better this week than last week, but I still haven’t been told that he will for sure be back. We will have to evaluate that when we get to Wednesday.”
