The Arizona Cardinals are coming off their bye week and, at 2-5, are set to begin the second half of their season. Things haven’t gone the way they believed they would, and there are good reasons for that.

At this general midpoint of the season, how about some midseason grades?

Over the next few days, we will give our midseason report card for each position group.

Cardinals midseason report card: Running backs

Trey Benson: 160 rushing yards, no TDs, 5.5 YPC

Bam Knight: 102 rushing yards, two TDs, 3.5 YPC

Michael Carter: 97 rushing yards, one TD, 2.8 YPC

James Conner: 95 rushing yards, one TD, 3.0 YPC

Emari Demercado: 90 rushing yards, zero TDs, 11.3 YPC

The team’s leading rusher is actually Kyler Murray with 173 yards, which tells you something about how the running backs have played.

Conner is out for the season. Benson is on injured reserve but is returning. Carter was just cut. Demercado is famously known for dropping the ball before the goalline in Week 5. He should have 91 yards and a score.

Conner was not as effective before his injury.

Benson has been explosive with runs of 52 and 29 yards, but has not been efficient.

It was believed that the running back room was one of the best position groups on the team. Now it looks like one of the most questionable.

Grade: D+
