13 Magic Valley teams qualify for postseason football tournaments

  • October 29, 2025

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Idaho high school football regular season is in the books, but we still have about a month left in the season as each classification works through its postseason to determine a state champion.

Thirteen of our area schools have qualified for their postseasons. Check out a little bit on each one below.

Twin Falls (5A)- The Bruins took back the district title from Minico this year thanks to a big win last Friday night. Shifting to the playoffs, Twin Falls has to like the draw they have because a win over 13th-seeded Ridgevue on Friday night would give the Bruins another home matchup in the quarterfinals against either Columbia or Century, both lower seeds and both teams that the Bruins match up well against. A state semifinal run, and potentially more, is not out of the question for this team, especially if they play to their level.

Minico (5A)- A tough final three weeks of the season has the Spartans sputtering into the playoffs on a two-game losing streak, and the lone win was a low-scoring 12-0 shutout of Canyon Ridge. It won’t get much easier for Minico in the playoffs because despite entering as the sixth seed, the Spartans will take on Sandpoint in the first round, a team that beat Twin Falls already this year, so this will be a true test right out of the gate.

Kimberly (4A)- The Dawgs scheduled a difficult nonconference schedule for the second straight year, and with starting quarterback MacRaye Bruning out for four of those games, Kimberly was lucky to escape with a 2-2 record. But in conference play when he returned they have been lights out since, averaging 50 or more a game outside of a lightning delay against Wood River, and they will have a bye and a home quarterfinal game next weekend.

Buhl (4A)- This will be Buhl’s final year in 4A as the school will be moving to the 3A classification next year, but this will be a good chance to go out with a bang and pick up one final 4A playoff win. The Indians went 6-2 this year and will come into the postseason as the eighth seed, meaning they will host McCall-Donnelly on Friday, a team that lost to Weiser, Buhl’s Week 1 opponent, that the Indians defeated. A win would set up a date with top-seeded Fruitland in the next round.

Gooding (4A)- First-year head coach Jon Helmandollar has the Senators playing some really good ball this year. The Senators matched their 5-3 record from last season, but this team is so much better than a year ago even if the stats say it’s about the same. The running attack from this offense is one of the stronger ones in the class, and with a favorable matchup against Snake River, the Senators have a shot to pull off a first-round upset if they are playing their best.

Declo (3A)- The Hornets have been state runners-up in each of the last two seasons, and this year the team has taken a step back, finishing with a 5-4 record but still good enough to make the playoffs on strength of schedule. A win over district champion Nampa Christian as well as a good Aberdeen team helped bolster the resume, as did a 20-8 loss to defending champion West Side. The Hornets will host New Plymouth on Friday night and will likely play a top two seed with a win.

Raft River (2A)- Raft River had high preseason expectations, and while it looked like they might come up short of those at times in the year, a final week win over Hagerman on the road gave the Trojans the tiebreaker advantage over the Pirates and set them up with a bye into the quarterfinals. Raft River’s 22-6, Week 0 loss to Grace is looking like one of the most impressive results of the season, and a potential rematch could happen in the quarterfinals.

Hagerman (2A)- The Pirates have made the state semifinals in each of the last two seasons, but like Declo, this team has also taken a slight step back. Hagerman still finished 6-3, a respectable mark no doubt, but against some of the top competition in the class the Pirates have unfortunately been outmatched, losing 34-8 to Logos in Week 0 and then 59-0 to Kendrick in Week 2. The Pirates have a good chance to pick up a play-in round win over Potlatch on Friday, who is the only Northern team making a trip south.

Valley (2A)- The Valley Vikings have been one of the hottest teams in 2A the last few weeks, picking up an upset win over Raft River on the road two weeks ago before handing undefeated Carey their first loss last weekend. The Vikings lost two games in a row to Prairie and Hagerman early in the season and went on a tear from that point on, losing only to Glenns Ferry in overtime 26-20. The Vikings will once again play on the road Prairie, this time in a playoff matchup.

Oakley (2A)- The Hornets have been one of the more fun stories of the last month. Entering the final three weeks with a 0-6 record, the Hornets rattled off three straight wins including an upset over Glenns Ferry on their senior night to jump into the field and ahead of the Pilots. Oakley closed the year with an impressive 44-40 win against 1A playoff team Garden Valley and made it into the field with an incredible run. The magic they have will be tested on the road against Logos Friday night.

Glenns Ferry (2A)- If Valley is one of the hottest teams, Glenns Ferry is one of the coldest. The Pilots have lost three straight, which realistically could easily be six if it wasn’t for the overtime win over Valley. That win is doing a ton of heavy lifting and is the reason the Pilots are in the field over Murtaugh. Glenns Ferry lost to the bottom two teams in the conference, Oakley and Murtaugh, in back-to-back weeks to finish in the basement, but they ended up squeaking in and will have a difficult matchup with Kamiah, the team that also ended their season last year.

Carey (1A)- The defending 1A state champions ran through the classification again this year going unbeaten against 1A opponents before suffering their first loss of the year this past weekend on the road against Valley 36-28. This loss is still very impressive as Valley is a playoff team in 2A, and this game was the only adversity the Panthers faced all season, which will likely be good for them ahead of the postseason as none of their games have been particularly close. Carey will have a bye into next week’s quarterfinals.

Hansen (1A)- Finally, the most surprising team of them all is the 7-1 Hansen Huskies. The Huskies haven’t had a season this good since the turn of the century, but this has been quite the ride in 2025. The Huskies’ only loss came to conference foe, and defending state champion, Carey, but all the rest of the games have been the Huskies showing off that rushing offense. Hansen will hit the road for their playoff game against Tri-Valley on Saturday afternoon, and a win would be one of, if not the biggest, in school history.
