The Cardinals have placed 13 players on reserves since Aug. 26
The Arizona Cardinals appear close to getting some players on reserve/injured lists back on the roster, but as of the conclusion of Week 8, since the reduction to 53 players on Aug. 26, they have placed 13 players on those reserve lists, which is the most in the NFL.
That includes 11 players on reserve/injured (IR) and two on reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP). Rookie defensive lineman Walter Nolen III began practicing while on the PUP reserve on Oct. 15, and his 21-day window will close next week with a possible activation in time for Monday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Cornerback Garrett Williams, who is on IR, began practicing on Tuesday (Oct. 28), while PUP linebacker BJ Ojulari will begin practicing Thursday, opening their 21-day windows.
Players practicing can be activated to the 53-man roster at any time, but a decision must be made by the end of the three weeks.
There are 13 other teams that have at least seven players placed on a reserve/injured list since Aug. 26: Detroit 12; Dallas 11; Houston 9; Buffalo, L.A. Chargers, Miami, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh 8; and Chicago, N.Y. Giants, San Francisco, Tampa Bay, Washington 7.
Through Monday’s Week 8 game, there are 164 players on IR with 12 of those practicing; 27 on PUP with three practicing; and nine on NFI (reserve/non-football injury or illness) with one practicing.
There are another 102 players that were placed on IR or NFI prior to Aug. 26. The Cardinals have four of those for a total of 17 on a reserve list with an injury.
The Lions are the only team with more and have 19, followed by the Dolphins with 16; the Cowboys and Colts with 13; the Steelers with 12; the Texans with 11 and the Browns, Buccaneers and Giants with 10.
