The Indianapolis Colts’ Week 9 opponent, the Pittsburgh Steelers, just made a trade and acquired a new safety.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers are landing safety Kyle Dugger and a seventh-round draft pick from the New England Patriots in exchange for a sixth-round pick.
This move comes after Steelers’ safety DeShon Elliot exited the team’s Sunday Night game with a knee injury.
Dugger was a second-round pick by New England in 2020 and has appeared in 81 career games with 69 starts.
Most of his snaps have come near the line of scrimmage as a box defender or in the slot, but Dugger has deep safety experience in recent seasons as well, according to PFF.
Dugger has 321 solo tackles in his five-plus NFL seasons, along with nine interceptions and 24 pass deflections.
With Dugger being such a late addition, it remains to be seen what kind of role he could have on Sunday against the Colts now that he has to learn a new defensive scheme.
The Colts boast the best record in the NFL at 7-1 and are led by their offense, which ranks first in points per game, yards per game, and yards per play.
