The Denver Broncos made some roster moves on Tuesday, revealing some small things to watch moving forward.
The team released quarterback Sam Ehlinger to make room on the active roster for linebacker Dre Greenlaw, according to Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette.
Greenlaw, a big free agent pickup for the Broncos, has only played one game for the team after missing the beginning of the season with a quadriceps injury, then got suspended for going after referee Brad Allen and threatening him on the field in the moments after Denver’s 33-32 win over the New York Giants.
Getting Greenlaw back is big for the Broncos’ defense, which loses Pat Surtain II for a few weeks due to a pec injury. The fact that Denver did not put PS2 on Injured Reserve and instead chose to cut Ehlinger may indicate that they remain hopeful, for now, that they can get the star corner back within the next four weeks.
Ehlinger has stayed in Denver through several roster workarounds that have made him a free agent. He’s been on the roster for the first eight weeks of the season and now will likely revert to the practice squad, where he can earn elevations. The former Longhorn had a strong camp for the Broncos behind Jarrett Stidham and is hoping to see the fruit that many other quarterbacks have by working with Sean Payton for a year. Stidham got his first action during the Broncos’ blowout against Dallas. The Broncos have not needed to dip down to Ehlinger.
