The New York Jet have done it. A notch in the win column.

The Jets (1-7) beat the Cincinnati Bengals (3-5) in a 39-38 final. It was an emotional day but does that win cause movement in power rankings?

Here’s how the Jets fare in national media power rankings polls before Week 9:

30. New York Jets (32): Apparently, all they needed was for RB Breece Hall to throw a game-winning TD pass − just the fourth non-QB to do so in the final two minutes of regulation or overtime in a game during the Super Bowl era (since 1966).

29. Jets (No. 32; 1-7): Maybe Woody Johnson should call a player out by name every week

Something scary: The owner’s bedside manner

Woody Johnson managed to turn most of the world into fans of Justin Fields overnight by basically blaming all his organization’s faults on the quarterback. New York “is rock bottom because of this guy,” ESPN analyst Alex Smith said of Johnson in response. “Maybe the problem is you, Woody. Maybe we look in the mirror. This is cowardly.” Fields responded by leading the Jets to a 502-yard day on offense and a come-from-behind win.

Week 8 Result: Won vs. Cincinnati 39-38

The Jets won a football game.

After a weird week that included the team’s owner throwing his quarterback directly under the bus and head coach (for this year, anyway) Aaron Glenn refusing to name a starter under center until he had to start Justin Fields by default, Fields turned in easily his best effort of the season in a wild comeback win over the Bengals.

It wasn’t pretty, and it came against a Cincinnati team sitting somewhere between bad and worse. But on the back of over 250 rushing yards and an efficient effort from Fields, the Jets finally got win No. 1.

Now they get an off week to bask in the glory of a win—followed by four games in five weeks against teams that presently sport losing records.

31. Jets (+1)

The Jets battled back to beat the Bengals to get Aaron Glenn his first victory. Justin Fields played well, showing up owner Woody Johnson, who made some not-so-nice comments about him last week.

29. Jets (32)

Give Justin Fields credit. He took a verbal beating from owner Woody Johnson last week, then responded with a terrific game that included three fourth-quarter touchdown drives. So what were you saying about your QB, Woody?

Here’s a column on Nick Mangold, the Jets and what Sunday really meant. Some players in that locker room felt something special on the field. Having gotten to meet Nick a few times, I can see where they’re coming from.

Best offseason addition: RT Armand Membou

Drafted with the No. 7 pick, Membou assumed a starting role in OTAs, and he hasn’t looked back while playing every offensive snap. He is excelling as a run blocker, ranking seventh out of 63 qualified tackles in run block win rate. Membou has had some hiccups in pass protection (39th in pass block win rate), but he hasn’t looked out of place. He is a steady rookie with a high ceiling
