With the NFL trade deadline just one week away, one Cleveland Browns defender has been tabbed as a name to watch.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Cleveland is open to trading away veteran safety Rayshawn Jenkins. The Browns signed Jenkins to a one-year deal in May, and although he’s been the primary option at the position behind Grant Delpit and Ronnie Hickman, the team does have two other safeties on its active roster in Donovan McMillon and Damontae Kazee.
Jenkins recorded an interception in the fourth quarter of the team’s Week 7 win over the Dolphins that was key to sealing the 31-6 win. Appearing in each of the Browns’ eight games so far this season, Jenkins has also recorded 21 tackles, a pass deflection, and a fumble recovery.

A trade would save the Browns $1.255 million against the cap and result in $167,500 in dead money, according to Over The Cap. The Browns, who are already slated to have 10 picks in April’s draft, could net another Day 3 pick from such a move.
Several teams across the league need safety help ahead of next week’s trade deadline. While it feels unlikely that the Browns will help out a divison-rival Steelers team that just lost starting safety DeShon Elliott for an unspecified amount of time — especially after Mike Tomlin publicly criticized Andrew Berry’s business practices earlier this month — there are a handful of other playoff hopefuls, such as the Los Angeles Chargers and Buffalo Bills, that could use a player in the secondary with an ability to make an instant impact.
