After playing his 71 NFL games with the Philadelphia Eagles, former Auburn offensive tackle Jack Driscoll has joined the NFL’s other Pennsylvania team.
The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Wednesday that Driscoll had joined their practice squad. Driscoll had been a free agent since March 12.
A fourth-round choice in the 2020 NFL Draft, Driscoll played his first four seasons with the Eagles.
Driscoll left Philadelphia in free agency on March 18, 2024, when he signed a one-year, $1.79 million contract that included a $400,000 signing bonus and $900,000 of guaranteed money with the Miami Dolphins.
But on Aug. 28, after surviving the preseason-to-regular-season cut with Miami, Driscoll was released by the Dolphins, who had been awarded former Park Crossing High School standout Grant DuBose on waivers and needed to create a roster spot for the wide receiver.
The Eagles signed Driscoll for their practice squad on Sept. 3, and he moved up to the 53-man roster on Oct. 23.
Driscoll played in a reserve role in 12 games for Philadelphia in 2024 before playing all 68 offensive snaps at right guard in the Eagles’ 20-13 victory over the New York Giants in the regular-season finale.
But Driscoll sustained an ankle injury in that game. He went on injured reserve on Jan. 10 and missed Philadelphia’s run to its Super Bowl LIX victory.
In five seasons with Philadelphia, Driscoll played in 67 regular-season and four playoff games, with nine starts at right guard, eight at right tackle and one at left tackle.
Players on NFL practice squads do everything the players on 53-man active rosters do except appear in games. But each NFL team can elevate two practice-squad members to active status for every game.
Another player with Alabama football roots returned to the NFL via a practice-squad signing on Wednesday, with former Saraland High School star Velus Jones Jr. joining the Seattle Seahawks.
Jones started his fourth NFL season with the New Orleans Saints after transforming from a wide receiver to a running back. Waived on Oct. 7, Jones joined the New Orleans practice squad two days later. He returned to the 53-man roster on Oct. 21, but three days later, the Saints waived Jones again.
New Orleans used Jones almost exclusively on special teams in 2025. In five games, he had returned eight kickoffs for a 22.9-yard average and made three special-teams tackles.
Since entering the NFL as a third-round pick of the Chicago Bears in 2022, Jones has 165 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries, 135 yards and one touchdown on 12 receptions, a 7.0-yard average on five punt returns and a 25.9-yard average on 48 kickoff returns in 34 games.
