NEW ORLEANS, La. (WLBT) – On Tuesday, the Saints announced Tyler Shough as the starting quarterback over Spencer Rattler for the remainder for the season.
Shough will make his first career start Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.
The decision comes just two days after the Saints’ loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which pushed their record to 1-7 on the season.
Shough got some playing time in the second half against the Buccaneers, finishing 17-of-30 for 128 yards with an interception.
Shough is the second-highest drafted quarterback by the Saints in the common draft era behind Archie Manning.
In the preseason, Shough finished 36-of-54 (66.7%) for 333 passing yards with two touchdown and two turnovers.
Last season at Louisville, Shough finished with a 62.7% completion percentage, 3,195 passing yards, 24 total touchdowns and six interceptions.
Rattler has struggled in his last two games, turning the ball over six times in six quarters against the Chicago Bears and Buccaneers.
Rattler boasted a 1-13 record as a starting quarterback, which is tied for the second-worst record by a quarterback in their first 14 starts since 1950.
